Hello all,
I've been lurking for a while now and finally decided to sign up.
What single coil sized humbucker would you guys recommend for strat? The body is ash , maple neck and rosewood finger board. This guitar is very bright almost shrill at time, it sounds nice cleans but it's painful to listen to with distortion. I'm looking for moderate to high power, something to warm it up a bit. I play hard rock to some metal, mostly Rush, Journey, Metaliica. I have no interest in putting in a full sized humbucker...Thanks

Which pup do you want to replace? Bridge, Mid or Neck?
Hot Rails are always a good choice for you kind of Music imo... though they might also get a bit high on the esh/maple combination at the bridge...

oops, bridge p/u

JBJR or Hotrails. maybe a lil screaming deamon would to the job
i have clips of the JBJR

Hi there.
I got a strat with ash body, maple/maple neck, and I've just recently replaced my bridge pickup with a JB Jr. It sounds amazing! Not that god for clean (uses middle neck for that) but with distortion/overdrive it kicks ass big time! Maybe a little bright, but... I've also tried a Hot Rail, but prefer the JB Jr.
God luck!

Oh thanks for telling me... I was wondering whether I should put a JB Jr or a Duckbucker in my Bridge for Clean play.. I think I'll take the DB now

Oh, I forgot about the Duckbucker!! ****!!

Another vote for the JBJr. Nice ballsy tone, but a bit clearer than the fullsize JB as well. Can do almost anything, excels esp. at heavier styles

Thanks for the info.

You see, Thats your downfall.
You must put in a trio of full sized humbuckers in each pup postion.

1 on the JB-- Especially for the harder styles. You could also do a 59 if you were looking for a more scooped sound--

1 works great , gives a credable more amount of crispness and some warmth when played with the mid pup

Excuse me for going in a totally different direction but I don't think that any single coil sized humbucker can really warm up your ash/rosewood combination, especially when nobody seems to like the regular JB anyway.
I suggest you to put a Dimarzio Fast Track 2 in the bridge and witness a great mid/bass boost and warm tone to your guitar..

The original poster asked this over 3 years ago. I doubt he's still checking in for advice
