Hey all...
I think im going to be planning on changing my 4x12 to avatar cab pretty soon. Im trying to figure out some stuff though. Speaker Combinations, open or closed back, etc. Right now im using a MG100hdfx head and cab, and until around xmas time when Im going to be getting a new Marshall tube head
(probabally 1987xl RI), i want to get my cab purchase out of the way and have some better tone till then. So... Im trying to figure out an Avatar cab that can handle at least 100 watts ( this will work with the 100w MG head right?)
with 4 ohms?
Well, basically im looking for this tone with any combo of speakers(preferrably celestion g12h, v30, or greenback)
Im looking for a blues or a quot;hendrix/britishquot; sort of sound. Im not looking for really heavy metal stuff, just some good FAT vintage british tones.
So.. should I go for the G12H amp; V30 combo. or is there a better setup i could choose? Also, if im looking for a fatter tone while completementing the speaker choice, should I go, open or closed back?
Thanks-
Alex
The V30/G12H30 is a great combo for pretty much all styles, although the G12H30 is probably the best speaker for what you want.
yea, i would say the G12H30 would be it man..
OK... so 4 G12Hs sound like what im looking for? Would i be wanting to get closed or open back?
ive never heard of a 4x12 being open back, although there are some that have custom portings and stuff for certain sound qualities, tho i dont recall that avatar offers that. other than porting, i dont think 4x12s come open back, only 2x12s and 1x12s etc
reason being, the closed back provides a tighter and bigger bottom end, and the point of 4x12 cabs were to provide more volume as well as more bass and a thicker sound, so closed back was the logical option from the get go
Alright, thanks a bunch Flank.
