Maple neck on a slab of alder,
Different pickup combinations,
Different signature models,
And different paint jobs.
What's the big deal? They're all pretty much the same guitar aren't they?
Hey! mine has a basswood body, not alder
Now that's somethin to get excited about!
Well yeah, some have basswood or ash.
i bet you play an SG
because they're the best damn guitar ever!

And your point is...?
I mean I see you guys getting excitted about the latest strat which doesn't seem like anything special - just a nice strat with an alder body and three single coils. Forget basswood, ash, etc - that doesn't seem to matter in a lot of cases.
There are so many variations and a strat is so flexible, not to mention fits like a glove, the best guitar ever.
i own 6 strats (as of now) and every one is different. different neck shapes and thicknesses, different radius, different body wood and each one has different pickups in them. different bridges, different finish etc....and they all sound and play different. i'm just very comfortable playing strats so i like to have a variety of them that look feel and sound different. the rest of my guitars have other features but i always tend to pick up a strat since i like the feel of them.
the same question could be asked about every guitar since the qestion you asked fits everything...
why do quot;youquot; get excited over les pauls? quot;They're all pretty much the same guitar aren't they?quot;
why do quot;youquot; get excited over SGs? quot;They're all pretty much the same guitar aren't they?quot;
why do quot;youquot; get excited over PRS? quot;They're all pretty much the same guitar aren't they?quot;
why do quot;youquot; get excited over explorers? quot;They're all pretty much the same guitar aren't they?quot;
why do quot;youquot; get excited over telecasters? quot;They're all pretty much the same guitar aren't they?quot;
every single guitar is a different guitar you will NEVER own two guitars that are 110% the same even if they look it.it's all about what feels good in your hands and what sounds good to you!

NONE of my strats have 3 singles in them. and if you think body wood doesn't matter, you have some learnin' to do hehehe
no i'm not trying to be rude by saying that, but just look at what you said, it seems to be very bias and not well thought out if you don't think the wood matters and that they are all the same.
the latest les paul isn't anything special either than...same old shape mahogany body, 4 knobs 3 way switch, 2 pickups etc. again, this can be said about EVERY model in a line of guitars.

I get excited over old guitars, and guitars which I've modified personally. I find les pauls boring now.

old guitars are ok. ALL of my guitars have been modified by me...every last one! and les pauls bore me too now, thus why i play strats since i can modify the hell out of them to fit my needs

Plus the woods you use in any guitar has a huge impact on how they sound and feel.
yea i have to admit, im being pulled more towards strats now... they do play really well, and they just fit right, im thinkin bout pickin one up soon... sigh, but hey, theyre really great guitars
for me, it is that the 'classic' strat sound is not that interesting to me- i mean it is fine when other people use it, but the way i approach sounds, if it had been done before, I want to do something different. No, strats are not all the same, but the similarities outnumber the differences. same body shape, same headstock. contols in the same place that do essentially the same thing. fun to modify, but in it's stock form, it doesn't excite me anymore.
i like strats because they're the best extension of the musician IMO. It carries and sings every note depending on how you play it, and is pleasantly CUTTING! It is also one of the best RHYTHM and LEAD guitars of all time, which is why clapton switched to it from his LP's and 335's.
Most of the girlz I go out with all have 2 arms, 2 legs, 2 hands, 2 titties, a face, a neck etc. It'z the subtle differencez yo.

I'm sure money and free gear had nothing to do with it...
Strats are cool when other people play them, but they just don't feel right on me when I'm standing up. The contours just hit my body wrong.
That's funny, when I saw the title of the thread, I thought this one is for me. but then, I couldn't agree with your message TBCD, I found the others are right, every guitar is just a piece of wood with some wiring inside. The rest is question of taste.
I mean, the strats never appealed to me, I can't stand the look and I remember that when I started to play guitar with my Epi LP, I tried the MIA Strat of my friend and didn't like the feel of it at all... espacially the maple neck that, ironicaly enough, I quite appreciated when I tried my first tele a few months ago. Maybe the profile ???
So it always comes back to the same issue: you got to find what suits you... You know the story.
Maybe I should try one again some day... who knows, I might change my mind.
Strats are very comfortable( tummy cut and beveled top), sound good clean or dirty, durable(drop a Gibson Les Paul or similar and see what happens) and can be had in almost an infinate variety of options..........Joe
