I know that the new Red Coat/Patriot speakers that Eminence is making are all copies of classic speakers, but what ones. I know which Eminence speakers are Celestion copies, but which ones are the JBL's etc.?

Thanks guys

Red ryder= classic lead 80
Manowar= g12t75
Governor= v30
Tonker= Fane with ceramic magnet
Texas heat= Jenson p12n?
Swamp thang=Mega bass and raunch ?
Wizard= g12h30

i saw they had one with a 103 db output

that's pretty insane

Thats the wizard and it is noticably louder than the rest. It has some highs I hope will dull with break in.
The texas heat is another great sounding, sweet tone speaker but its DB is only 99 and because of that you would have to get 2 of them in a 4x12 to balnce it out an they would have to go on the top.

it's the wizard

also 75 watts instead of 30

very nice!

Private Jack = Greenback
Tonespotter = G12-65

I'm really diggin' my Governors and I'm getting two private jacks for my Budda cab.

so, klink, they work out alright?

howsa bout a review now that they're (I'm guessing) broken in?

I settled with 2 governors up top and a manowar and red ryder on the bottom of my Mesa 4x12. I have 2 wizards on top and 2 swamp thangs on the bottom of a crate cab that will soon go into my Voodoo amps 4x12 that I should get next week.
I cant make up my mind on the red ryder or manowar to go with the governors. I made a bunch of soundclips and will be making more after they are broke in. I am giving them to the engineer at Eminence and he said they may use them? I played some Deftones, Slipknot and some original riffs with a Marshall JCM 800 into the Mesa 4x12 with the gain up. .

Manowar= Resonant frequency (91) at 120 watts. Alot like the G12T75 but more mids and less annoying highs. Has alot of lows but a higher resonant frequency (91) than the G12T75 (80). This is my second favorite speaker. It has it all for a metal/ Rock player and is a few of my friends favorite speaker. It sounds best mixed with Governors.

Tonker = Resonant frequency (89) A Fane copy but ceramic at 150 watts. I love this for cleans but it was a little dark for my rectifier and the gain was a little grainy on top. I find this to sound more American than British.The lows were great and it was clear and cut through the mix

Texas Heat = Resonant frequency (79) A Jensen P12N? copy at 150 watts. The db level was only 99 so it wasnt loud enough to mix with the others I tried. I do love this speaker as it has a sweet tone and it would be great for a 1x12 cab. It is very balanced and has no bad frequencies although it has alot of high sparkle that I assume would tame itself after break in.

Red Ryder = Resonant frequency (90) A Classic Lead 80 copy at 120 watts. It sounds better than the 80 as it is not as generic or modelling as the 80. This speaker is not as far out in character as the others and is great for a line 6 or Johnson amp as well as any tube amp. I like the thump, punch and clarity of this speaker. It goes great with the Governor but not so great with others like the wizard as the highs get a little over accentuated in that mix.

Governor = Resonant frequency (100) A copy of the Vintage 30 at 75 watts. This one is my favorite but I find for metal or rock you might want to mix it with a manowar or red ryder as it lacks some lows and highs of the others. Thats what I love about it though as it cuts through the mix and has no offending highs like the v30. I think the v30 may have more lows or at least the resonant frequency of the v30 is 80 compared to the governors 100. This speaker goes great on the top of a 4x12

Swamp Thang = Resonant frequency (97) An Eminence original at 150 watts. This one is huge in the bass. Almost too much. I prefer it on the bottom of the 4x12 as it is kinda dark compared to the others. It has a raunchy vocal quality that I really like and it sounds more Brithish than American to me. It has all the highs you could want and mixes the best with the wizard although the highs from the wizard push it over the top in my oppinion. The Swamp Thang is not as clean as the tonker but not as dirty as the manowar, governor or wizard.

The Wizard = Resonant frequency (89) A g12H30 copy at 75 watts. I really like this speakers vocal quality and bass but its highs are annoying kinda like the G12T75, at least before break in. The Eminence engineer said it is their most balanced speaker so I assume the brittle highs will go away. The breakup is similar to a governor but a little more headroom. Mixing these on the bottom of a 4x12 with 2 governors up top is great but lacks the lows a metal player would want but a classic rocker would be in heaven.

klink - thanks for the awesome write up (VAULT!!) ...

did you experience any 'cone cry' or 'ghost notes' in your trials? ... i've read on other boards that some folks have had less than good experiences with the eminences for these reasons .. not sure if these thigns go away after break in or not ...

cheers

I only heard that when I ran the head at 4 ohms (50 watts) when removing 2 power tubes. I have not heard it since and they just keep sounding better every rehearsal.

Klink - that's what I've been waiting to see since I heard about the new Eminence designs. Thanks!If you don't mind, I'd like your opinion on something:
In a 2x12 cab running off of a Mesa Road King, which speaker or combination of speakers would get me the best In Flames / Carcass / Arch Enemy rhythm and lead tones? The speakers in the cab are side-by-side, so I assume they'd have to have similar output.

I would get a manowar and a red ryder for that scooped mid/ heavy bottom crunch tone. I like the governor and manowar mix the best but the red ryder is a little cleaner and has more low thump than the manowar. I have a 2 channel rectifier and love this setup of governor/manowar for the slipknot tone on Duality.

The Swamp Thang is similar to EV12's.

I have 2 swamp thangs mixed with 2 wizards and they sound good with a ton of bass. I wasnt aware of them being copies of the EV. I can see the similarities but I would think the EV is cleaner. They are kinda dark but I like the headroom and open airy quality mixed with 2 gainy speakers like the wizard.

i have a question

playing through a marshall 1960 cab with the 75's, well, i'd like some more bass, and highs that cut better

a little tighter sound wouldn't be bad either, just a little, not like all out v30 tight

so what would you reccomend? I'm thinking a 4x12, with a 2x12 on top, don't wanna use less than 102db speakers

Governors in the 2x12 and swamp thangs, manowars or red ryders on the bottom of the 4x12 and wizards or texas heat on the top of the 4x12.

sorry for dragging up this ancient thread but i have a question. what would be for a 2x12 layout for the traditional strat through a blackface twin reverb or similar amp? great cleans, and the bright strat bell/ sparkle?

The best 2 speakers mixed for cleans that I owned were the texas heat and tonker mix or tonker, swamp thang for a thicker sound.

klink, do you remember which guitar-top and which guitar you did
use for the test?
cheers
