hey everyone,

This is my first post on the forum. I have a simple question to ask you guys caus you seem to know alot about this company. I curently have a custom custom humbucker in the bridge position of my guitar. I was woundering if any one had a good suggestion on what i should put in the neck? I'm into classic rock music. I was thinking a 59 model...would that be good? Thx for the advice in advance.

Phil

Welcome, Phil. A very popular combination with the Custom Custom is a Pearly Gates neck. A Jazz would be nice too.

PhilI have seen some guys with a CC/59 set up...I prefer to use another Alnico II pickup with the CC...I really like the Alnico II pro neck or the Pearly Gates neck with the CC...a Seth Lover is another good choice...

OH! Welcome to the forum!

Thx for the welcome guys! Thx for the advice. I'm gonna look into the pearly gates and seth models...but i think im still gonna check out the 59 also. I love that old school vintage sound. But the 2 others will surely be on my list of pickups to look at.Thx again for the help.

Phil

I have the CC/APH II setup in a double fat strat, and it is the bomb. The APH still does that old school vintage sound, but it is just sooooo smooth and warm, but not muffeled or lacking in highs...great balance. It's my favorite neck bucker of all time, with the Seth comming in a close 2nd.

Oh yeah, if you want to hear it, click on my soundclips. I used this guitar on All Right Now and Heavens Door. Heavens door is CC for distorted rythym, and APH for leads. All right now is all CC.

phil here is a short review I did after getting a CC/Alnico II Pro in my Yamaha...maybe this will help you a bit.

There are also several posts I have made about the tone of a PG, and in fact I did a small shoot out a while back between a Alnico II Pro neck and a PG neck...good luck, and remember Duncan has a 21 day return policy.

Let's say i want to put a 59 in there...would that be a mistake or just a different sound?

Phil

It wouldn't be a mistake at all.....it's all personal preference. We're just suggesting pickup combo's that we've tried and like. It sounds like you really have your mind set on the 59', so I would suggest you start there. That way there are no other influences when you hear the pickup...then you can decide if it's right for you or not. If it's not, use the 21 day exchange and try something different.

Does anyone out there have that combo on pups on their guitar? If so could you plz give me an idea of what it would sounds like. thx.

Phil

Neil Zaza uses a CC/59 combo...he is not a forum member but a Duncan user...it works for him.

Alright ill look into that.Thx for the info. But does someone actually have it in their guitar?...if so, would it be a good choice for classic rock?

Phil

What kind of guitar? I had a 59 in the neck of my strat with a CC bridge and the 59 did not fare well to me. I replaced it with a Paearly Gates and it was much better. Strats just seem to take well to A2 pickups. If it's not a strat just about any of them will do well. Just my .02

pearly gates for sure...i have a CC and pearly in an alder maple/rosewood strat (once was tatooedcarrots guitar he spoke of) and man it's a perfect combo from clean to gritty blues to all out metal these pickups can do it all with NO problem with the right amp!!

ebony on that one Mike

But yea, that's the guitar I was referring to.

whoops...wasn't thinking...i had my other strat in my lap while i typed that and must have spaced out...yes it is ebony...woah...long day lol..

Pearly Gates!!!!! Love it - The extra scoop on the PG mixes really well with the mid boost on the CC as well for cool quot;both pups onquot; combos. Each one rocks all by itself as well.

The main difference between the seth, 59, AII, and PG's is that each one adds progressively quot;morequot; to the classic hb sound. Seth is ultra classic, 59 is the next generation, right up to the PG, which has a little more scoop to the tone curve and the most highs of them all.

I like the PG because I think the CC has a pretty extreme mid, and the PG seems the hottest of all of those to me.

I wouldn't recomend the CC/59n combo. The 59 just has too much bass to it. Switching back and forth between, the don't balance all that well. However, I must say that they sound great together in the middle poistion. Oh yeah, I have them in a Les Paul Studio. Sometime soon, I plan on getting an Alnico II Pro for the neck.

Hey everyone,

I actually went with the 59 in there like i was planning to do....and....i couldnt be happier!

I really wanted that vintage Jimmy Page kind of tone, and with my guitar its just perfect! ( i have a Godin Lg, mahogany body and neck, rosewood fretboard). I didnt even realise my guitars could sound so amazing! It does have a good amount of bass, but not 2 much, just like i wanted. The hi and mids are really great 2! And the sustain on it is breathtaking. I had to do some ajustments so that they would work well together, but when you get em right, its really amazing.

Thx for all your advice. I have another guitar and im also planning to change the pickups on that one, so ill look into your suggestions for my next project! Thx a bunch for your help.

Phil

Hi Jeff that APN II sounds great in the neck. Sounds like a Les Paul tho in strat. I am thinking of getting another Les Paul and can't make up my mind to go with JB/59 or Jazz, or go with CC/APN II?
