I have searched dozens of quot;Best OD Pedal?quot; threads and have not yet found answers I'm looking for. It seems everyones situation is slightly different, whether it's the amp or guitar they're using or the final tone they're looking for, no one quite matches my predicament.

I am searching for an OD/Boost pedal for solo work on my Mesa Tremoverb, and possibly as a clean boost as well to get some decent classic rock tones. I would love to try a Klon but cannot afford one at this point.

Can you please suggest some pedals I should look at that would fit the bill (fat solo boost amp; gritty OD) within a reasonable price range (lt;$120)?

Thanks.

TS9DX has worked for this exact application for me for as long as I remember. I am sure you have seen this pedal mentioned, but might be worth your while. Th DX has 4 modes and you can really tweak it to be a great boost!!

pickup booster or have STRATDELUXER97 mod a ts for you. I don't think you could go wrong either way.

I like the look of that DX. Anyone know if Stratdeluxer does mods on these TS's?

The Fulltone OCD is the best overdrive pedal I have used with my T-Verb. Still sounds like my amp, but classic overdrive instead of Recto tone. I use the Fulltone Fat-Boost for clean boost.

I've been looking at the OCD. Can you explain the difference between the OCD and the Fat-Boost and how you yourself utilize them with your T-verb?

I use the fat boost mostly to increase volume either on clean parts or when switching from the Les Paul to my Strat, but sometimes I use it just to goose an already crunchy tone for solos. Lately I have been using the OCD for my main overdrive tone. It has two modes - I use low power for blues and more classic rock tones, and I switch to high power for more crunch and to tighten things up. You can get into harder rock tones in high power mode. It is definitely the best OD pedal I have tried as far as doing its job while still letting the inherent tone of the amp come thru.

I've done several...Feel free to PM me if I can help you further...Do a search under TS9DX for some reviews...

Its hard to beat the SFX-01 . . . or anything else, that John touches.

Artie

The OCD or the Maxon OD808 or OD820 get my vote!

Yep, I agree. I use the TS9DX too. Great boost pedal.
However, I tend to use it in the normal TS9 mode 99% of the time.

The SFX-01 Pickup Booster is really just a clean boost. It's not an OD. However, it'll push your amp harder and make your amp overdrive, so a degree.

With your budget, I would say the Boss OD-3, it's a good OD and to boost volume for solos. I prefered it to the TS-9 when I A/B'd them. If you want strictly clena, go for an MXR Micro Amp, also cheap.

I've been using a Fulltone '69 for the past 6 months and love it. It is categorized as a fuzz pedal, but it gives you a real gritty quot;tube amp pushed to the limitquot; sound.

I just picked up a Fat-Boost yesterday at a little vintage guitar shop here in Knoxville (Music Room Guitars if anyone is ever passing through). He was selling it for $130 used. It isn't an OD pedal, but I have been able to get some really hairy tones from it. Like Spark said, you can simply use it as a clean boost, or you can dial in some gain and get that cranked tube amp sound at almost any volume. And it really does fatten up your tone as advertised. It may not be the OD that you're looking for, but you would not be sorry if you bought one.

I actually think I'll be picking up a Barber Direct Drive. I've heard good things about them on some other forums and have heard some killer sound clips.

I've heard good things about the Direct Drive, but I've never played one myself.

I've been real tempted to try a Addrock Boostmaster myself. I'm very happy with my Dual Drive, but since I only really use the clean side, I'd like to see if I can find a pedal that just does boosts for solos and doesn't have anything else on the circuit.

Digitech Bad Monkey.

I really love my Direct Drive- I've got one of the older ones. Finding a pedal that's both dynamic and non-compressing is a thing of beauty!
