Do you ever miss not having a tone knob? I'm unsure if i want one or not for my next project, i want it stripped down and simple looking, with the least amount of things to adjust, a simple plug in and play guitar, and also i rarely use the tone knobs on my other guitars, however i also think maybe it's one of those things that i won't realise how important it is untill i don't have it.
So, do you guys have any regrets when going tone-less?
Nope
My current guitar doesnt have a tone knob. I just mess with the tone at the amp or at a pedal.
yeah dude great point!
in my new strat that i have the tone knobs are just for show as i have completely disengaged them.
i dont know of many players that actually do anything with them except have them full on all the time.
unless they are needed in the circut to produce good tone for single coils. i dont want anything attached to my humbucker except the volume. ( 500K)
good point dude!
i would like to know though of a schematic that uses H/S/S where there is no tone controls and the humbucker uses a 500k pot and the single coils dont sound bright.
any ideas?
well, if you never touch the tone knob in the first place then you never have to adjust it! Isn't that plug and play?
Of course if you don't use it now you don't use it... you don't need our opinion to tell you that.
again you might want to use it in the future which creates problems.
Tone pots are cheap. Might as well stick one on! You never know. Would it reallyget in the way that much?
slade
I'm with slade, but then again, I never use my tone pots either... so I'm on the fence I guess.
On the guitars w/o I don´t miss it... but I quickly would on guitars that originally had one
I rarely, if ever, use the tone control on the bridge pickup. On my neck pickups I have a treble bleed cap that kind of necessitate using the tone control.
wow, i use mine all the time. i'd get really frustrated on a guitar without one.
I hate them. They're just one more knob that I have to make sure is set on 10.
I only use the volume knob.
i hardly ever use it due to my style of music. thus why on my last build i left it off but on others i have used it. i guess it just depends on what i want the guitar to do. do i need a tone knob...nope...do i miss it...nope!

I never use it in the guitar I've got one in and rerely miss it in the guitar I took it out of. The only time I think it might be nice to have it is using a bridge single coil, or in my case a split humbucker. Other than that - no, never.
I use my tone knobs every time I pick up any of my guitars. They're cheap, easy to use, and can give you quot;that soundquot; in certain situations.
I don't use mine, but I've found that on the guitars I've changed pickups, I sometimes want them on just to experiment.
i use my tone knob more then my volume knob, it allows so much flexibilty at my disposel, but to him there own and if you never use it then dont worry about not having one.
My Warmoth was supposed to have a tone knob for bass and a knob for treble (yeah it exists) but since i only had one potentiometer I only did volume...that was a year ago and i haven't gotten new pots yet
Of course without the tone knobs on my Fender those single coils and the maple neck would be waaaaay too harsh-sounding. Depends on the axe i guess.
If you find yourself missing the knob you can always put it on later.

My hummer guitars I could get by without them. The Tele and Strat .... No Way!
I always just remove them. Master volume = superior to all.
I don't have the tone pots out of the curciut, but I never mess with it.
