What are people's opinions on neck sizes? Fat, strat-thin, super thin? What's best for speed, comfort, etc. I'd be interested to hear what everyone thinks.

My SG Standard has a nice soft quot;Cquot; shape...my SG-X has kind a thicker quot;Dquot; shape to it. I'm pretty happy with either. I've found that given enough time, I can adjust to almost any neck.

I'm gravitating more towards a thicker neck, my favorite shape of all is the quot;offsetquot; shape you can find on Wolfgangs and SRV signature strats. It's very ergonomic. I also really love the profile of my strat. It goes from a soft V in the lower registers to a C by the 9th or 10th fret, and changes in thickness from about .850quot; at the first fret to right around .900quot; at the 12th.

I've also found I prefer a fretboard radius no flatter than 14quot;, and no rounder than 9.5quot;. Damn I'm picky .

i like fat necks, but have no problem in dealing with thinner ones (unless were talking ibanez thin.....euch.)

I like mine fairly thin like ESP and Jackson (NOT Ibanez thin!!).

Does the neck thickness have much of an impact on the tone?

Well, more neck wood means more weight, and therefore more sustain, in theory. Although in most cases the difference is neglible. Although someone I know has a really fat neck, and says that you can feel every note and chord vibrate through the guitar.

well i have no idea if the thickness affects tone, i guess not... but with thinner neck it should be more easy to do bends??? or am i wrong... i have two types of neck, one is an ibanez wizard II profile and the other is a Peavey Tracer which i dont know which is the size of it, but i do know the Peavey is thinner than the ibanez...

I like the thickness of the Epiphone LP Classic (open coil) quilted guitars, that's a nice feeling neck. I also like my H207's neck, kind of hte same as the epi. I also love the MG series necks, those are so fast it's crazy.

I really don't have a shape or size I prefer. I think thin neck with a large radius feel faster, but I doubt I actially play any faster on them. IMO thicker necks are more comfertable for playing chords. I kind of supprised me but I really like the neck on y blueshawk. It has a slight v shape to it.

i find it harder to bend on my ibanez as compared to my lp. i hate my ibanez. when i bend it feels like i get no leverage or something. idk its weird. but its not easier to bend on that neck. overall, i find a medium sized neck to be comfortable. i got the lp classic cuz it has the slimmer 60's neck as opposed to a big beefy lp neck.

For me, it doesn't matter! I was blessed with long and skinny fingers. I can play them all!

*And to everyone don't play the quot;long and skinnyquot; thing with me*

I find that it depends on what I wanna play. For more chord based work, I love bigger, rounder necks. A Les Paul neck is great. For shredding, I really like thin Ibanez necks. The soft V of the Jimmie Vaughan Strat is great too; it's big, so chords are good, and the V helps a bit with leads.

Depends on hand size and playing style.

my fave neck profile is the clubby 70s U shape, but I'll get along with most fat neck profiles. other faves include the fender SRV neck and the standard, wide fat and McCarty PRS necks.

My HM Strat has a wide, slim, flat neck, which is great for light-touch gymnastics, but it's not a great guitar for digging in on or playing rhythm for long periods.

My favourite neck is the one on my '92 MIM Standard Telecaster, it's a soft quot;Cquot; shape with a 9.5quot; radius. I also really like the Wizard neck on my RG750VP which ironicly feels different than the neck on my RG750FA that is about 500 serials older.

My '86 MIJ Squier Strat has the most comfortable 24.75quot; scale neck I've ever played, and I loved the feel of a Charvel Model 5 Lefty that I played today...

The only ones I really don't like are the modern and vintage Gibson necks, I like the '70s ones.
