Well... i just bought a brand new washburn flying v body (basswood, 4-bolt neck joint). It has the pickups, controls and pots already installed and working, though it needs a bridge and tailpiece (les paul style) and of course... a neck. Should i order parts from a part house like Mighty mite or warmoth, even though ill have to pay a lot of import tax to get them over here .. or should i scour ebay?
thanks
scour ebay first. it will prolly be cheaper in the long run. Try to make sure you can get most if not all of it shipped from the same seller though.
I don't think you can order direct from Mighty Mite, you might be able to find a dealer in your country. My custom strat is mighty mite body and neck, and is of very high quality, although the range is abit more limited than Warmoth, Warmoth's shipping prices are extortionate. E.g 2 SD pickups would cost between $80-90 for shiping and customs, where as 2 SD's from GuitarPartsResource.com would cost $5.95 and NO!! customs. (In my country anyway. I really should be paying it but i dont get anything)
I agree with 9finger, ebay is prob the best bet. Also you have to pay extra to not have the mounting holes drilled on a warmoth neck, whereas Mighty Mite ones are blank so you can drill any amount in any config. Some washburns have unsymetrical screw holes.
Hope this helps
thanks for the info guys.. ive been searching ebay, but the non floyd non fender necks that actually ship to australia are kinda few and far between, lol. I was looking for an ebony fretboard as well, which makes things even harder. The bolts are all asymmetrical.. i could literally put a strat neck on it... not that id really want too though. I guess im too picky, haha.
If you know someone stateside that you trust, you could always have them bid on it for you then ship it.
Just a thought.
