Im deciding between either a late 70s Marshall JMP mastervolume, a plexi RI (1959SLP or 1987x), or a 1980s JCM800. I dont really know what I should choose so can you guys tell me some pros and cons of each. I like to play classic rock stuff and 80s hair metal. It doesnt really matter if its 50W or 100W because Ill probably get an attenuator anyway. I want something with good tone. My guitar teacher has a 78 master volume JMP and its a little on the bright side (which can be good for AC/DC kind of stuff but I dont think Id like it all the time) and idk if the JCM800s have good enough tone or not or if they can get good clean sounds. I kinda like that vintage stuff to so thats why I wasnt sure if the plexi RIs would get that sound but I think Im leaning towards the plexi RIs. Also I only have $1000 to spend and I already have a cab but I would prefer not to spend that much. So can you guys give me some of your input. Thanks.

I don't own any of these, but I would personally pick the JCM800 or the 1987x. I just love the sounds they produce.

From your description, I'd say go for the SLP 1987X. I was trying to make this decision recently and someone here told me that it's much easier to make an SLP sound like a JCM than it is to make a JCM sound like a SLP. That was enough for me anyway!

Like you I love the sound of both these amps, but with the SLP you're much closer to having both. See what I mean?

I say go for the 1987x. My friend has a modded 1987x head and it's the best sounding amp I've ever heard. I think all he did was give it a master volume and an extra gain stage.

I think Id rather have a SLP than a JCM800 but now its between that and the mastvolume JMP. Can the SLP get those AC/DC sounds too that need that extra brightness and still be able to warm up for Van Halen type stuff.

Go play all of them back to back to back( or side to side to side of whatever floats your boat) and then decide what you want from that.
