****** I've added pics here: amp pics ******Howdy, bros

I took off for a week, and went up to Monterey County to visit friends.

My friend quot;Jack Creekquot; is getting ready to start work on his second CD, so he had a few amps in his studio. We spent most of Saturday pluggin into different amps and comparing tones.
here are some of the amps:
Two Rock Emerald, Sterling, and one other one; a Diezel 100 watt head; Kendrick 4x10 (Bassman clone); a Mission Amps 5E3; Vox AC 30 (the previous version); Komet; Bruno Underground 30.

We also went over to Sylvan Music in Santa Cruz and plugged into a few Victorias.

Anyway, I came home and my computer died, but when it revives, I'll have some pics and a better report.Peace

Good to see and glad you had a good time!

So, what was your fav of the amps you tried?

the Bruno!

it may have been partly the size of the room - it was a small studio, and the Bruno shined in that environment.

I got some good tone out of the Sterling, but it's a 100 watt amp, so a little hard to crank in a studio.

That's funny.....I was just about to type that I've heard good things about the Bruno!

That guy sounds like me....with more money!! haha

I hope you got some good pics. It sounds like he's got a perfectly well rounded stable of amps!

uh ... your name did come up in conversation

I'd love to hear your comments on the Mission 5E3.

Artie,
it sounded terrific!

I think quot;Jackquot; did a better job building his than I did. He used a Jensen P12Q RI. It sounds great, especially for lead work.

He got the building bug, and he's working on a JTM 45 kit now.

WOW!!! now that's a sweet collection of amps...!

can't wait for pics!!!

Just curious Curly..... What did you think of the Komet? I have a friend who has one and he says it is the best Amp he has ever used.

Dave,
the Komet was probably the one I was most interested to hear and play.

the only problem was that it stayed very clean until you got very LOUD, but quot;Jackquot; said he really liked the tone we had when I played rhythm on the Komet with a strat, and he used the Bruno for lead.

I would've liked to have spent more time with the Komet, but unfortunately, I only had so much time in the candy store.

Jack played his Morgaine Goldtop through the Komet, and I thought you could really hear Knopfler's tone from his last CD with that combination.
While some of the other amps seem better voiced for strats, the Komet might be one that shines with humbuckers.

bump for the pics

Damn, that is that new Diezel Einstein. What did you think of that Curly? I have heard it is a very organic sounding little sucker. Thanks for the pics and report.

I just talked to Jack, and he said he keeps coming back to that amp. Although it's a modern amp, he says it still has ties to the past, like the thumpin bass of an old Bassman.
