Wondering how a JB might sound in an ash bodied Strat? I know that a ash body lacks mids compared to an alder body so I was thinking the mid heavy JB might sound a little more balanced in a ash body.
I had one in my ash strat and it sounded fine. I now have a 59 in that guitar as I grew tired of the quot;mid spikequot; in all of my solos. BUT sometimes I still think about getting another JB (shudder) when I listen to some of my 80s music.

The reason for this is because the JB has changed spec from the original version you hear on those recordings from 20 years ago.5150, Ash is a really really bright body wood! In my hard ash Strat, I have a lowish-output HB in the bridge (A VHII) which only has about 9.5k DC, and it still has a lot of brightness. I'm having a switch put in it now that will have 2 levels of resistance available to tame the high freqs.
As for SD pickups, I think a Screamin' Demon is a much better choice for the Strat than the JB. Just use a bit more gain, if needed.
think Jake E Lee

from : localhost/clips on there on the left are by a swedish guy called Ralle, with a JB in a hard ash bodied strat copy into a 67/68 100w SL plexi (can't remember which year)

JB in an Ash body strat may be very cool! I have a JB in the bridge of my American Standard strat.... It's Alder but i could imagine what it sounds like in an Ash body... MY Strat has a hell of a lot of mids with that JB and the JB is overpowered for the Noiseless fender pickups i have in the neck and middle.... I bought the guts out of an Ernie Ball that i was going to try in my USA Strat.. That means i'll have the JB free for another 80's inspired super strat....... i have about 5 JB's now.....

yeah, that white/black one is Northern Ash,
his later Charvels, Jacksons and ESPs are
Alder(as far as I know)
