I'm gassin' for one of these with the bullseye finish, but I see alot of blemished ones....returns?
Anyone know how these play or hear any feedback about them?
Don't particularly dig the bullseye graphic, but i would love to have a superstrat like that one day with a floyd
Do you know who immortalized that Bullseye Charvel? There's a local Venice Beach icon, a guy who rollerskates playing that old Charvel, and he wears a white robe and turbin, named Harry Perry.......the Karma Kosmic Krusader.
He's rollerskated on the boardwalk for over 25 years, and has become a local icon. Imagine that guitar as reliced as humanly possible....being played daily next to the Pacific Ocean, and all the crazy places that guitar has been. I've looked at that guitar closeup and the neck is so worn, it looks almost the same as a piece of driftwood.
[edit] I just found a picture of him with his Charvel, but it looks as if the original neck was completely worn out, and he replaced it with something I don't recognize. Charvel really should honor him with a signature model.....that exact guitar! While the Bullseye Reissues don´t quite nail the early San Dimas neck feel like the new pointies do, they´re still THE best Charvel strathead tha t you can buy new today(Unless you happen across a true San Dimas somewhere in outer Mongolia or something )
BTW: from first hand accounts, Harry Perry seems to now have a Performance Guitars neck after wearing out the original Strathead... he also added the Floyd (or had it added, but that´s not important)
I've seen Harry Perry on Venice Boardwalk since I moved to California in 81. His whole life is skating on that boardwalk, but mostly on weekends now. One time, I spoke with him for a few seconds, and was looking at his guitar. The original neck was the most worn out neck I've ever seen. He skated next to the salty beach for decades, and his neck was almost charcoal colored. Notice how yellow the body is compared to the new pic.
He probably had a luthier replace the brass bridge with that Floyd. He's the guy who immortalized that exact guitar, so I wonder if I should send an Email to Wayne Charvel and ask him if he's ever thought of using Perry's likeness for ads, and furnish the old beach bum with his own signature model! Zerb, if you know anyone at Charvel, you should ask them!
