is there aquot;rule of thumbquot;for p/up height ? does p/up output make a difference in the clearance adjustment? i have a quot;59RPquot; in the neck and a quot;pearly gatesquot; in the bridge.
A hahaha, you got one of those Fender Blackout guitars
Okay, I think manufacturers usually put pickups about 1/4quot; away from the strings. I don't know where my ruler is, so I can't give you an exact measurement but I've got mine at like 3/4 of 1/4quot; and it sounds great, I also adjusted the pole pieces quite a bit which is something that you could consider doing if you don't really like the sound.
Essentially the rule of thumb. Lower them a lot and play, if you don't like it, just keep raising them and playing until you like it. You can, of course do this the other way too.
yeah,i got the atlantic blue blackout tele.nice piece.for the price ,how could i go wrong.it needed a minor set up,neck adjustment ,got rid of the 9's and put 11's on it.the spec sheet had the p/ups listed backwards.when i got it,i pulled it apart.found the the neck p/up is actually the 59 and the bridge is the PG.no big deal.the pick up selector was wired wrong in the middle position (out of phase).my luthier friend took care of that in like three seconds.other than that , it looks cool ,and plays well.and sounds good.i have a double fat strat coming (2001 american) coming soon too.
Yeah, on Fender's site it was correct but MF screwed it up haha.
I was gonna get the Showmaster version of that, but they sold it...then the tele and they sold it haha. So now I'm trying to get an ESP V-250 haha.
Anyway it's cool that you like it.
The best way to adjust it is to play the guitar through your amp, and adjust the height with a mini-screwdriver as you play, so you get the notes ringing and sustaining just how you like it.......by ear.
thanx d-e915 and gearjoneser
buckers, I believe, can go to as close as 2.5mm (i use a two 1mm dunlop picks stacked to get an idea) Be sure to make the measurement while depressing the last fret. Also adjust for fretboard radius/string balancing. I find the b string needs a bit of quot;holding backquot;
Also make sure you've got enough room for when you palm mute, if you are pretty hard with it make sure the strings don't touch the pole pieces as it makes a pretty awful sound if you're playing.
