Guys,

Do the Phat Cats sound like real soapbar/P90's or are they a more modernized version? Do you recommend 2 Phat Cats or should I go with Fralin splits singles, Kent Armstrongs, etc?

Thx

From what I have heard, they do not sound the same. Here is a very good write-up on the Phat Cat in an ES-333.

They are very similair to a soapbar but, I have found them to be a bit fatter than a soapbar in tone.

They are constructed exactly like an original vintage P-90, but with a bobbin shaved to fit under the cover.
If you have seen a vintage P-90 there is plenty of bobbin left to shave away after the edge of the coil.
Any tonal difference from the traditional Duncan P-90's would be because of a slightly different wind and the use of Alnico II instead of Alnico V magnets.
