Hello All, New to the forum, been a user for 20 years. I have some neat discoveries
lately and would like your response and opinion. I bought a Hamer Archtop
Korean for like $300 4 years ago. It has the gold covered Duncan Designed HB103N amp; B. I understand that these are supposed to be modeled after the Distortion pickups. I Had a mad scientist moment the other night and replaced the magnets with alnico V magnets. This guitar totally sings now and love the clarity and tone it now haves. Probably one of the best sounding sets I've heard in a long time. Could I do this with thier stock Distortion model or is there a production of this version. In love with this sound. Thanks for your help.

Jim

You just made a Duncan Designed JB.Nice work.I think you'll like the Duncan JB even more.
P.S. send me that old magnet

Yeah, the JB is basically a distortion with an Alnico 5 magnet instead of a Ceramic. Welcome to the forums!

Hey Thanks for the reply. Funny thing, I put a JB in there and did'nt sound
even close to this. Maybe the covers make the difference.

The Duncan Designed pickups have a greater range of quality control than the U.S. Duncans, so that's probably what you're hearing.
