I have a Peavey cab loaded with G12k-85's that has awesome clarity at any volume. Problem is I want something that sounds fatter and fuller. I don't really think I want to mix speakers in this cab.
I just got an offer to buy a new Randall cab with quot;high energy vintage 30'squot; in it for $400. Would this cab give me what I what or no?
Bump
what are the dimensions of what you have versus what you are looking at?
closed back or open?
Closed back on both.
I play alot of COC/Down, Sabbath, Danzig and The Cult type of tunes.
I just had my Randall head retubed and am thinking of pulling 2 power tubes to drop the watts to 50. The Peavey cab allows a ton of head room and clarity, but lacks the fatness I desire. Even tho it sounds totally bad @ss I think I need more fat and cut with clarity than what I already have. And this V30 loaded Randall cab just fell in my lap. Is it a good or bad direction/buy.
Randall makes very very good cabinets, and they sound fat and clear in the cases I've heard them. Evergrey and Kreator both use them live with 5150's, and sound incredible.
I have the SAME Peavey CAB... lol
Those 85s were used a lot with solid state devices, they are kinda articulate and bright. They will NOT get fatter and creamier when pushed. I think the Vintage 30s would give you a more rude and creamy sound with a fatter midrange. I would add that for a nice bottom and classic tone, I do favor the G12H30s, and for vintage tone I prefer Greenbacks.
i dunno if i've ever seen v30's as sounding quot;fatquot;
they're more of an articulate speaker than anything
ok ok fat was a bad choice, let's say they are ARTICULATE and get a nice cream to them while still cutting thru while cranked - as opposed to greenbacks which can tend to mush out under high pressure LOUD volume situations.
Right now my fave speakers are the Mesa 90w and the G12H30s
did I correct my bad choice of words?
The peavey cab will not get any cream as you crank it. does quot;creamquot; work as a word here? Like cream in your coffee to make it smoother and milkier but not as in a glass of pure half and half or milk.... lol
Is fuller a similar comparison to creamier?
I'm gonna play my head on the cab before I buy it. It's at a local guitar shop that no longer carries Randall. Its an XL cab that came with a Randall Titan head that had already been sold. And they just want to get rid of it. So lucky me if it sounds good.
Nah, cream is cream
It's all about the dessert
