I'm not really familiar with quot;Duncan designedquot; pickups.....but I might buy a guitar equipped with the HB-103. My friend said they weren't very good but I was wondering what you guys think.

theyre not the worst thats for sure, they bassy to me, but they sounded pretty decent

I like the HB-103n, but I'm not crazy about the bridge version. It doesn't seem to have sufficient weight on the chugga-chuggas. But the neck version has a nice lead sound to it. Fat and a little bit grainy, with absolutely endless sustain under heavy gain.

FWIW, I have an HB-102 set that I love. Freaking great. Wouldn't hesitate to put them on the right guitar.

I think the problem with the Duncan Deisgned is quality control and consistency. You might get a good set, a sucky set, or a dead-on to the originals set. You just don't know until you try.

My 2¢: try out as many models of the same guitar through the exact same amp/settings until you hear something you like.

But really, check out the GUITAR first. If you fall in love with the guitar's mojo, you can always fix the pups later. But great pups can't save a lame-ass uninspiring guitar,, you know?

Cheers.

do you by chance have any pics of your schecters?
