im lookin for a distortion pedal to really be like an extra amp channel, yet i wanna be able to tweak it so it can also be used for a soslo boost and stuff. ive got a boss bd-2 pedal that i think is lacking nuts. im not looking for an over the top pedal, but something that get a nice audioslave sound like in the chorus of the be yourself song yet also somethin that can get pretty heavy. i was considering the electro harmonix english muff'n or the seymour duncan tweak fuzz or any other pedal you guys can suggest.
thanks.

i would recomend an ibanez turbo tube screamer. from my experience the TS will give you a nice bluesy overdrive (with clean channel) and some heavy distortion (on the dirty channel). These might not have enough 'balls to the wall' for you but you should probably go check one out.
Is Jerry Cantrell God? Yes...but so are you!
As for the Distortion pedal, it sounds to me like you want an overdrive pedal more so than a fuzz or distortion pedal: I like the Boss DS-1 and so does Steve Vai and Joe Satriani.
You should also check out a TS-808 or TS-9 Tubescreamer.
The Duncan Tweak Fuzz is excellant but it's a square wave fuzz...not an overdrive pedal like the DS-1 or Tubescreamers.
If you want a cleanish boost that'll push your amp into overdrive for a natural quot;crankedquot; tone check out the Duncan Pickup Booster too. It's superb!
Those are all of my faves...

I just bought a Marshall Jackhammer and it is one of the most versatile O.D./Distortion pedals I have ever played through.........lots of good tones for a few bucks. Got mine for $40.00 shipped on Ebay.
Maybe you'd like this pedal.
I can't speak to personal experience. I have the TS-9, and I like it (but I want to send it to Stratdeluxer for mods).
BUT, I just programmed another preset in my POD xt Live! using it and I really dig the tones from it. I used it with a Vox AC30 amp model (run clean) and I use the Tube Driver to push the amp (as a stomp effect). If the real thing is ANYTHING like the model, it's a really cool stomp box.
thanks guys. these are some cool pedals. does anyone have any feedback on the english muff'n? i dont know why but this one seems to interest me alot lately. i guess its cause the way it looks or something haha.
My Jekyll and Hyde is effectively 2 pedals in 1. I set the Hyde side for overdrive, and the Jekyll side for a boost. When I use it with my Marshall TSL, I get 4 channels all with boost!! Covers pretty much most scenarios.
what amp do you intend to use the pedal(s) with?
a dsl50. ill have the classic gain channel on clean and the other channel would get pretty heavy i guess. i guess im looking for an in-between. i like stevie bees idea.
Personally, I don't think the English Muff'n justifies the asking price. It's good, just not that good. I've always thought pedals with pre-amp tubes to be a little gimmicky. I guess there's potential there for some exciting circuitry, I just don't think anybody has nailed it yet. If you're playing through a tube amp you certainly don't need the extra hassle of tube pedals either, you've already got tubes in your signal. There's a reason why guitar players are one of the few remaining groups to even consider tubes in circuitry, because they're rubbish.

Yep, deffo. 1 on this. So many choices for what you've described it would be almost impossible to make any suggestion of any weight. If you can tell us a little bit more about what it is you're looking for then a ton of people will all be able to make a load of suggestions. See my signiture for what I think are two of the best O/D's around though. but I din't think either of these are really what you're looking for.
If you're on a budget you can consider the Ibanez TS7. A fat sounding overdrive with a decent amount of gain in the hot mode. Not enough for metal but definitely enough for hard rock. You can also lower the gain and crank the level to get a solo boost.
thanks for your replies guys. would it be kinda pointless to get a tube pedal like the english muff'n if im already playing through a tube powered amp? i want a pedal that can get U2 and thin lizzy and pearl jam type stuff. nothin too metallic or artificial but like smoother and more vintage-like. and diversity is always good. the fulltone 2 sounds interesting, but expensive. the tube screamer doesnt seem to thrill me too much. the marshal guv'nor seems cool. any others? thanks brothas.

i've heard nothing but 5 star reviews for the muff'n.. i want one, but i got 2 distortion boxes i love already
thought about seeking out an old MIJ SD-1? i got one because of the zakk wylde connection, and it'll make a JCM800 bite your balls off! if you lead it into the yellow channel on the DSL, you'd get some fireworks.. basically a very chunky, aggressive but still classic-rock flavoured tone
im gonna bump this again
thanks.
