Is basswood a good body wood? Im scoping out a Tom Anderson, and it has a basswood body with a maple top, should I wait for a mahogany body with maple top?
Thoughts?
I beat this subject to death a while ago. One of the best sounding guitars I've ever owned was basswood with a maple top. Ernie ball MM axis is basswood, so is the petrucci model, so is the Ibanez Satriani model, so are some Ibanez Steve Vai Jems, etc. etc.
I love my basswood bodied schecter.
Go for it. The maple/basswood combination works very well, and with Tom Anderson you can be pretty sure the woods used are top shelf.
Basswood has a nice good dark tone (compared to alder). I say go for it!
Rock On - kac
It is a great combination for sure, go for it!
