I want to make a tube amp. Mainly because it would be fun, but also to get an amp out of it. I was thinking of modding a little Bogner. Anyone have any experience with this stuff? I need to know where I can pick up some info. I have The Tube Amp Book, and RCA's manual on tubes already.

If you love tweed tone, a good place to start is with a Tweed Deluxe 5E3. There are various kits out there, but some require more work than others, some offer more support than others.

My favorite kit guy is Bruce at Mission Amps. His stuff is well thought out, support is clear and quick, he has a ton of digital photos showing you most of this stuff step by step. His kits are a little bit more expensive, but you get what you pay for in this arena.

from : localhost/heard this is a great place to learn and ask questions.

I'm electrically hopeless, and I've got 3-4 years of electricity and electronics training...

For a good free document re how tube amps work, check out the ax84 P1 theory document.

I would start with building an amp before modding an expensive amp like a Bogner. The ax84 P1, 18W, and 5E3 are all good places to jump in.

Oops, by Bogner, I meant the very cheap and expendable Bogen... Honest mistake, I wouldn't do something like that... Yet.

...a Boggy? Go to town, they're one of the more common tube PA/organ amp conversions to guitar amps. The layout may be a bit of a trick unless you drop everything into a new chassis.

And please read up on safety before you open the chassis.
