I have a Fender Strat Plus with gold lace pickups. I'm just overall tired of the sound. I've been playing a wide range of music like Tesla, Audioslave, AC/DC, and ZZ Top. They are all different sounds and I want pickups that can DO IT ALL!!! Just kidding, but I do want away from that gold lace pickup sound and honestly, I've listened to the Tone Wizard all day and can't tell Ozzy from John Denver. I tried finding it in the forum search and couldn't really find what I wanted, but I might just be brain damaged from my Tone Wizard marathon.

Try the Fender Fat 50's for middle and neck and an Antiquity Custom bridge for the bridge.

Sell your strat and get a Gibson . . .

Get the quot;Everything Axequot; set. There's a reason it's named that.

you've got the wrong pickups and the wrong guitar for the music you play...........Well, o.k you can keep the strat but i think you should look away from single coils............you need humbuckers for that--------gt;Tesla, Audioslave, AC/DC, and ZZ Top

Thanks for the info. I know ya'll probably get these repeated questions alot. I'm looking at pickups and an sg, but will probably get the pickups due to my newly wed budget. I love my strat, but am just tired of that gold lace sound for now. Also, is it just the way strats play that makes them not good for that type of music. I never knew much tech about guitars, I just played. I only know enough now to make me dumber.

Woods, pickups etc. contibute to strats tone and sound. All those bands would play better if you used a SG or les paul. But seeing as gibson is a rip off... why not try a good value brand like Hamer or Godin, twice the quality for half the price. The freeway series by Godin should handle what your looking for, powerful tone on bridge pickup, but you can still get those fat strat sounds from the middle pickup. It will basicly do everything you want and you'll still have the ability to swap over to some strat sounds. As for Hamer, I dont know their guitars to well, but I'm sure if you looked you could find what your looking for. Godin site is try the freeways, they are very nice. You can get them for about $600 american, you can find them cheaper though. If you want a very versatile guitar, get a Signature LG, they do everything except heavy metal. They cost about $1000 on musicians friend

Keep that garbage on some other thread or something. First, if it's overpriced, there's probably a reason for it, something they're doing that you just don't know about, or it's in the name or the brand. Anyone who buys a Les Paul just for the name or how much it costs is missing the point anyways, so this line of thought is moot.Originally Posted by Pecanwhy not try a good value brand like Hamer or Godin, twice the quality for half the price.

Again, you're just trolling. People say a lot of stuff on here that can't be proven, and you're only adding to it. Funny how they also say ESP got sued or whatever, when they look a LOT different from the guitars people claim they copied.Originally Posted by PecanThey cost about $1000 on musicians friend

Sure, so I'd buy something else at the same high price mark? That's not even logical. If you're griping about the Slash signature being high priced, that's another thing: you're paying for quot;what Slash usesquot;, etc. Your response is worthless, and I'm surprised that I'm bored enough to respond to it.

Since you love your Strat, and I love mine too so I know how you feel, a pickup change is all you need. You don't have to get a Gibson or Godin or SG or whatever. You do not need a new guitar. You can play rock-n-roll on a Strat with no problems. Iron Maiden plays metal on Strats. And like JOLLY said in another thread, quot;it's the amp too. I can play metal on a Tele if I wanted to.quot;

Look in to the quot;Everything Axequot; set. It has a JB Jr. bridge, Little 59 neck and a Duckbucker middle. All three are hum cancelling. The beautiful thing is you don't have to get a new pickguard or anything, just swap out the pickups and you're ready to rock. The fact that the guitar has 250k pots is fine. In fact, lots of people use 250k pots with the JB and JB Jr. anyway to tame it down a bit. It's still aggressive, just not harsh.

And Pecan, leave the Gibson bashing out of this, better yet, don't bring it up anymore. It's been discussed enough.
