Anyone have exepriance with a dimebucker? Likes/dislikes? Any feedback you could give me is greatly appreciated.
I had one in a Jackson V. I really like the pup. Has a very raw, chainsaw type of grind to it, but yet articulate at the same time. Kinda hard to explain, but always right on the edge. Chunk for days....... Hope that helps.Peace,
Darrin
I have one and I like it a lot. It is a real loud and clear pickup, it really bangs that amp, at first I thought it was a high output pickup but when I got an APH-1n it was real loud also, so I think that many Duncan pups really bump up your guitars output.
You are going to have to adjust your E.Q.'s because this thing just screams, all my previous favorite E.Q. settings weren't compatible with this pup. Some people say to start your E.Q. settings on 5 and then dial in a good tone but for this pup it is better to start all the settings LOW and then dial in a tone to taste. This pickup will not hide any flaws or flubs of the player. This pickup reminded me that I need to practice more and I need a better guitar to put it in. ha ha
I can get pinch harmonics anywhere on the fret board and good palm mutes and the power chords stay tight and clear, all the notes ring out. The high notes sound like shattering glass whereas the APH-1n's highs sound like what broken glass sounds like under your boot. If that makes any sense! ha ha The bass stays real tight too which is good for heavy playing and downtuning.
Some people say this pup has scooped mids but I don't really hear it like that, the specs show the E.Q. to be 6/5/8 Low/Mid/High. You're just not going to get that Dime tone right out of the box without heavy processing like he did. I don't know what tones you're after, I'm just pointing that out.
Now to my ears I hear all kind of different tones with this pup, one chord will sound like a Foreigner tune or a Cars tune or AC/DC. It's funny because it really nails the tones of bands that Darrell would have grown up hearing ( I'm not saying that he listened to the bands that I mentioned, I'm just saying this pup really nails the tones from old). Now I know that all the bands I listed are way before your time but I'm just using them as a point of reference. This pickup can nail a lot of tones, it plays great clean or dirty and with the 4 conductor wires you have the option of using it with a coil splitter, it sounds REALLY good as a single coil, great chords and riffage.
Hope this helps you and good luck with your decision.
i like it quite a lot for rhythm work in two of my axes. It's pretty aggressive and is just like a screaming chainsaw although it stays clear all the time without losing any definition. I use it on my axes for downtuned seetings since it doesn't get muddy and still retains it's clarity and cutting qualitiy even in low-tunings.
I love it. I'm using it in a basswood body, maple/rosewood neck, floyd bridge guitar. It's high output, but not as hot as you'd think. Very clear, articulate, yet kind of quot;sludgeyquot; in a good way. mrid said it sounded like it had slime poured over the top. Tight bass, kind of a neutral mid, in that it doesn't sound scooped or boosted. The highs are very high, but not obnoxious. My favorite part is the twanginess. It almost sounds like there's an old Telecaster pulled way back in the mix playing along with you. This is what I attribute the unbelievable clarity to.
It's a very underrated pickup, and very incorrectly viewed as a one-trick pony.
awesome cause now i am having one installed, i can't wait to here this pup, i am also putting a sh 6 distortion in my neck position to kind balance my axe in case i want a more punkish sound. man i can't wait i cant wait i cant wait!
Hmm.. all this positive feedback is really making me wonder..

Why?
The SH-13 is a GREAT pickup that never gets enough hype.
I use it in all 4 of my guitars and it's like nothing else out there.
The SH-13 is a pretty 'clean' pickup; it's not a super, heavy output type of thing that is just gonna make your guitar go crazy. It's a very consistant pickups that really lets you hear the guitar, rather than mask it with tone--I have it in a few different guitars and the tone sounds the same, but I'm still able to hear the tonal differences in each guitar (I.E. Woods, amps, etc).
When you use a lot of gain it really holds together and does not break up, like some pickups; When you push your amp hard is really shines and keeps the distortion tight; When you run it clean it cleans up really well--so well you probably wouldn't know it was the same pickup, if you wern't already using it.
Basically, It's a great pickup. At first, it might not get the tone you want, but if you sit there and really tweak it, then the possibilities are amazing.
If you don't like it, you can always exchange it for something else.
Just try one, bro.
