Anyone got the schematic handy?
JV strat wiring simply moves the 2nd tone from the middle pickup to the bridge and leaves the middle pickup with only the volume (like the bridge in a vintage style Strat)
I understand that, but my head is in the sand and need a visual to do this properly. BTW, thanks Christian.
Which wire? Great, don't have a push pull pot now I have to go to the music store......that's just terrible! LOL....Actually they brought in a Deluxe Reverb for me to try out so I can kill two birds with one stone.
It can't be as simple as bringing the lower right wire on the 5 way up to the open lug?
my bad...hold on...
This is a stock (vintage style) strat...master volume, neck tone and middle tone

This is Jimmy Vaughan Style wiring...moveing the middle tone control to the bridge pickup and leaving the middle pickup quot;wide openquot;. It is just moving one wire ove one lug...

Thanks, I'll give that a try.
there...after a half dozen posts and edits, I got it right...
LOL.....dork, J/K!
You know, the actual 50's mod, which involves wiring the tone control after the volume control to retain highs when the volume control is turned down, is possible on a Strat. You can still do the mod described in this thread...but then you extend or replace the wire that's attached to the output of the 5 way switch on the tone control side and attach it to the middle terminal of the volume pot. I think that thread's been in the Vault now for a year or so. Lew
Thats true Lew...I was having problems making a post and getting it right, so much in fact that I forgot about the other part of Ryans question
Maybe it's just me but I don't care for the 50's mod...I guess im just used to the highs getting rolled off when I use my vol control...
Just finished and the results were great! The '50s mod really works well and is very noticeable from before. This really helped tame the bridge. And even though I loved the tone of the middle before it REALLY came to life after taking it out of the tone circuit. It's super sweet and chimey! I did run across Artie's picture of his version of the '50s mod and I swapped the bridge for the middle tone.

Thats cool Ryan...I knew you like the JV wiring. I have a Strat with only a volume control and a tone on the bridge...with both the neck and middle quot;wide openquot; and I like it a lot too.
I guess where I was having the most problem was not actually understanding how the 5 way switch works. I'm kind of kicking myself after realizing how simple it really is.
Thanks for all of the help!
guitarnuts.com has a diagram of the 'Eric Johnson' mod....which is the same as the way Jimmy wires his strats.
I don't see anything on the website about EJ. The mod that I just did simply takes the middle pup out of the tone circuit, adds the bridge pup to the tone circuit and adds the '50s mod to the the tone circuit.

True, true! In fact, that is the exact configuration I have in my JV Strat. Open middle pickup and '50s wiring. It is one of the most open sounding guitars I know. I was the one that got that vault thread started I used the '50s wiring scheme that ArtieToo and you came up with. It was so simple I couldn't believe it, I just had to change connections on two wires.
I think I still have a pic of the wiring after I finished...yup

I think I still have a pic of the wiring after I finished...yup Awesome! As far as I know, I was the first to come up with that wiring scheme. I know I'm bragging a little but it's true! Several years ago I sent it to SD Pickups to include with thier Strat wiring diagrams on the Support page as quot;Lew's Strat Modquot;. They still haven't listed it though. Lew
