Hey
PLEASE HELP ME!
I am new to this whole pickup thing. My buddy gave me his fender mexican strat (alder body, maple neck, standard 3 single coils, vintage style tremolo bridge) and i wanted to do some work on it to use it for a backup guitar. All it has in it are factory pickups right now and of cousre they dont sound good. I simply play rythm guitar. I play a lot of rock (3 doors down, nickelback, staind, 3 days grace, foo fighters). I guess what i am looking for is something that is a little heavier and beefier. The guitar will be used along with my marshall amp and i just need something with some more crunch on the distortion end of things. What pickups or combination of pickups do u guys suggest?

I've been told here that a JB in the bridge, Vintage Rails in the mid and a Lil 59 in the neck are a smokin combo.

I went jb in the bridge, Duckbucker in the mid and a Jazz in the neck. I can't tell you it sounds yet as I'm still awaiting all the parts to assemble it.

I've ordered a little 59 for the bridge and a Cool Rails for the neck. The Vintage that's in the bridge now, will move to the mid.
I'll report how it works out as soon as they're in.

Go over to the archive and look at Lew's ultimate strat tone thread.

Here I made it easy to find.

I use a JB Jr neck model in the bridge of my home made strat. I absolutely LOVE it. I would also recomend a Custom Custom in the bridge. As for the other pups, it depends on what you want from them. You'll Probably be using the bridge for all the stuff you listed. You might want to get a nice bluesy sound out of the middle and neck positions.

a Custom in the bridge and either a Pearly Gates or Alnico II Pro in the neck will cover all the sounds you listed.

JB Jr. bridge/Lil'59 neck in middle/JB Jr. neck for sure. Now what we really need to work on is your music preference....
