I was checking out some prices on new Gibsons and noticed that alot of models went up in price approx 10%!! Why?!? How can Gibson justify raising prices right before Xmas? Especially with their questionable quality issues?

Every time I think I can save enough $$ for a Gibby, they raise the price for no reason... what a drag... I wonder if they'll blame hurrican Katrina like they did when they raised the price of GAS...

I love gibson guitars, but hate gibson...

...end of rant...

isn't it nice how the QC goes down and the price goes up? makes sence to me.

Gibson just had another 6% price increase across the board...pretty crazy if you ask me.

i noticed this at AMS also. The thing that pisses me off is that the Classic SG was $799 new just last year and now it is $999 new.

Buy used.

I just bought what is probably the only Gibson I will ever buy unless I find a great deal on a used firebird, explorer or v. Gibson is definitely pricing themselves out of the market on many models.

i guess i got my les paul just in time!

You justify the higher price by getting it. End of story.

The market determines whether the price cannot be justified. When Gibsons no longer move off the shelves, you will see price cuts, and not a moment sooner.

Exactly. They raise them because they can. They know people who want them, whether they play or not, will pay those prices.

Example: I knew a guy in CA who paid $2000 for a beautiful Les Paul Standard and couldn't play a note. The guitar just sat there in the case or on a stand. It was more of a conversation piece than anything. He didn't even know why he bought it, but he did. Then, he sold it to the other guitar player in the band I was in.

Dam, i better get my les paul soon or i'll be forced to be a fender man forever!

It's not just Gibson. It's everything that's gone up, from the price of hot sauce to tampons.

It goes straight over my head amp; into my monitor why anyone pays good money for a Gibson made in the last 20 years.

I don't know, maybe because nothing sounds or plays quite like a good one?

That's one possibility.....but not the one I lean towards.

Are you saying that Gibsons just sound like a lot of other guitars?

I bought all mine by watching the used market, then FLYING to their home with cash in hand, the second a good one popped up. You snooze, you pay more!
I'm not too fond of Gibson's recent tactics, but the fact is....they sound better than all the other guitars I've owned with humbuckers.

I'm equal opportunity though.....I'd buy a Les Paul or a Singlecut. They're all great guitars.

I don't think that is fair. Yes, they have their issues, but Gibson is still producing some d@nm fine guitars.

For the money they're charging, I disagree like whoa!
