What gear did the beatles use (mainly george) on Nowhere Man I was told that rubber soul was done with fender and i can tell on i few songs but nowhere man sounds purely ricky 12 -string

Thay had started using Strats, but there's also an SG as well as the Ricky's on that album.

One thing's for sure, the guitar tone on the solo in quot;Nowhere Manquot; is heavily, heavily compressed. You can really hear it on the final harmonic.

i read recently that both john and george played that lead at the same time, so it was 'doubled' ...

great tune - great part

George double-tracked the solo with his new blue Strat, amp; yes, t'was very compressed. I thinks the Strat was in what we use to call the in-between spot, twixt the bridge amp; middle pickups.

Yup it was the Strats.

If you're a Beatles fan and a gear dork, you owe it to yourself to get quot;Beatles Gearquot; by Andy Babiuk.

If I would have had this book 5 years ago I wouldn't have given away my Grandparents' Lowrey organ. (the opening sound to quot;Lucy In The Sky...quot;)

Page 157, a quote from George Harrison:

quot;...I decided I'd get a Strat, and John decided he'd get one too. So we sent out our roadie, Mal Evans, said go and get us two Strats. And he came back with two of them, pale blue ones. Straight away we used them on the album we were making at the time, which was Rubber Soul – I played it a lot on that album, [most noticeably] the solo on 'Nowhere Man,' which John and I both played in unisonlt;emphasis mine-t4dgt;.quot;

Yep, the Magical Mystery Strat (before George got his paints out.) I was listening to a documentary (thx LReese) in which George notes that he missed out on buying a Strat in Hamburg during the early days. Guitar History could have been rather different.

This is John with Rocky’s sister.
