This was cleared out of an old Gretsch factory in 1980, it's what was supposed to become a Gretsch BST-5000, a double-cutaway neck-thru sustain monster. The factory shut down and everything was left undone. I picked this up on ebay recently, but decided to concentrate on my other project (see avatar) instead. I'm asking $150 shipping
This a 3-piece neck maple with a layer of walnut in between. 24 frets (low and wide), rosewood fretboard, 24.75 (Gibson) scale, binding, and an uncut nut. The trussrod adjustment is on the bottom of the neck. The wings are Walnut, one is 1-piece, the other is 2-piece. It's all 2quot; thick. The guitar IS NOT glued togehter yet, I just set the 2 wings beside the neck for the photo.
Basically, it's up to you to finish sanding it, glue it together, route for p'ups, electronics, and hardware, and apply a finish.

Hey, it's Friday night, I just got home:-P
Here's some more pics of it. Like I said, it's as it came from the factory, which is quot;work in progressquot; other than a little sanding on the body by me to get the factory quot;#8quot; writing off of one of the wings.
The wood all looks great, some nice sanding and some tung oil on the neck and poly on the walnut would look sweet. The shape is really nice, kind of a tilted double-cutaway style that's really cool. The headstock was pre-shaped from the factory, but there's plenty of length to do a PRS or Gibson shaped end of the headstock. The walnut looks like a milk-chocolate version of mahogany up-close, very pretty. There's bit of a knot in the side of one of the wings that could use a little dab of glue or filler to smooth out, but either way, it's not in spot that people will notice. There's a little extra bit of binding glue that's on the fretboard behind the 24th fret, a little find sandpaper there and that should smooth right out. That's all I can think of as far as the condition goes.
Price-wise, a similar neck from Carvin would cost you over $200 (for a 3-piece neck), and the Walnut wings would be $50 or so, plus this one has already aged for 25 extra years, so it's quot;old woodquot; now. $150 is a good deal for what it is.
Anyone want it before it goes to ebay or my workshop:-)
Did you sell this already? Do the wings come with it? Just curious.. would you sell it without the wings?
Thanks
Tim
Hi Tim,
Yes, it's still for sale, I never got replies from the other guys. It does come with the wings, but I can sell it without them (I wouldn't mind using them for another guitar in the future). I'd cut the price to $120, shipping would be less to, since the wings are half the packing weight.

Damn, I'd love to have it, but I couldn't buy it for another month probably.. But if you don't sell it in a couple weeks, please keep me in mind.. I'd rather just have the neck and buy my own wood for the wings as I'd use probably Mahogany or Basswood.. I just sunk a bunch of money into a guitar, pickup and some effects or I'd had bought that for sure man.. Sorry.. Again though if you don't sell it, please keep me in mind.. I'd like to get it.. Is the neck straight? What kind of truss rod does it have? I mean is it a single or double ? Do you know if the neck has carbon rods by any chance? I doubt it, but some neck thru's do such as Carvin, etc.. Anyway, I've been dying for a neck thru neck in a Gibson scale to make a custom LP out of.. I only wish it had a maple neck, but that neck is fine the way it is if it's strong, etc..
Thanks man.. Geesh I hate it that I only work part time now.. was laid off..

Hi Tim,
It looks like Fatty's sending the $$$, so it's his unless he changes his mind. Run a search on ebay for quot;gretsch projectquot; or quot;gretsch neckquot; and you should be able to by one like mine, they had several for sale. It's maple and walnut, so it's even stronger than just plain maple. This one has a single truss rod. I highly reccommend the Carvin neck-thru's they've got the carbon rods, dual-rods, and are unbelievably strong and dense. I thought I'd want the LP scale on the Carvin neck, but they only do 25quot;, so I got and now I love it. If anything, the sound is a little clearer than a Gibson scale and the scale is a bit less cramped on the fingerboard. I put my SG next to the Carvin neck and fret to fret, there's a big difference as you go down the neck. If you request it, Carvin can do a mahogany neck with abalone inlay, all kinds of fun stuff.
