i picked up the following equipment at a friends music shop in Montana.
i saw the amp and liked the cab, and after some dealing and the price was right (dirt cheap), i pulled the trigger. Little did I know the bass was included. the amp seems to be similar to a fender bassman. 4 inputs, bright and normal for channel 1 and 2. bass, middle, treble and presence. it appears to have original tubes in it. Sylvania or GE. 2x short barrel 6l6 2x12ax7 and 1 12au7. i havn't pulled it apart yet. the pots need cleaning, but it sounds great with a les paul and a ts9.
the bass, from what i can tell, is a late 60's Kent. A catalog bass. But it is actually pretty decent. the construction seems sound. nice inlays. needs electronic work though. think I may sell the bass. who knows.
Does anyone know anything about either of these? I will have to update you all when I pull the cab and amp apart.
Interesting stuff! Any idea what year the Univox is? That stuff screams Partridge Family! LOL ......but in a cool way!! I've never plugged into a Univox.

I think from what i can tell, the univox is between '68 and 72. some of their stuff was made in the US, but later it came from japan. So far it is pretty decent sounding. I also tried my THD univalve through the cab, and it sounded a little fatter than a regular 2x12. latter today I may pull it apart to see what kind of board is in the amp, and date the pots, and see what speakers are in the cab.
If I keep it, I may switch the tolex (If I figure that the amp will never be much of a collectors item.)
I say keep it stock! that's a very cool looking amp please don't harm something with that much mojo!
Im gonna have one of those amps one day...every time I find one it's been painted black...
they are pretty similar to a Tweed Bassman/1987 Marshall...Jeff Beck used them for a while areound the BBA time period and IMO they sound great...grab a Strat or a Les Paul and a Pro CO Rat and you're In JB tone heaven!!!
coolest... ****ing... thing... ever
slade
yup...those are some cool finds bro!!!
That amp is seriously cool, looks like it has some serious mojo, i say do NOT change the tolex.
I've seen a 4x12 in that colored tolex scheme. I've also seen similar heads (3-4 in the past 2 years), but with all black tolex (whether they were re-tolex jobs...)
Remember Univox had Jimmy Page for an endorser (endorsee?) 'round about the time these amps were out.
from what I can tell, the black ones were quot;guitarquot; amps. The two tone blue ones were designated quot;Bassquot; amps. Some of the black ones had reverb. i think that was the only difference. I guess I will take all your advice and leave it as is. I like the two tone pattern. I was thinking of making it a two tone brown or two tone Moroon/cream. But I will leave it as is. I think you guys are right. some things should not be changed.

on there video that came out recently it shows him playing univox amps on one part. I think they were black.
Have you checked out this site?

Keep that blue mutant the way it is, or I'll send the Lemurs after ya.
Regarding the color - the earlier Group B amplifiers were blue, but later models were a black/grey combination. They are sort of a cross between Marshalls and Fenders, some were ridiculously powerful. Jeff Beck was an endorser for a while during the Beck, Bogert amp; Appice days.
Wouldn't you just LOVE to have a 100-watt head and the matching 6x12 cabinet?
And that Kent - I have a .jpg stored away of a quot;Pawnshop Prizequot; article GP did on the guitar version of that. I hope some day to copy the photo into a real body. It would make a really cool 12-string.

that is ultra-cool. verdict is in. the amp stays as is (well, the tubes get a total upgrade, and maybe recapped, I like all of my amps rock solid.) If I give you an e-mail address, could you give me a copy of that article?
by the way your site is really cool!! I like all the work you did on that amp. and on the amp at the bottom, were do you get the black/silver univox logo's. the red ones on mine are pretty quot;in your facequot;.
The quot;in your facequot; logos complete that look. Replacing those logos would be like taking out the padding and vinyl and tolexing a tuck and roll Kustom.

That 2x12 stack at the bottom is not mine - the picture is off univox.org.
I found the scan of the Kent. Sadly, it's mostly just the picture. There's some text left down each side, but only like 1/2 of each line. What's there is legible, though. PM me your e-mail address and I'll send it.
