OK, so I've heard all of the great amp kit projects you guys are kicking out. I want a kind of custom amp / tweed thingie without the custom cost. I thought maybe I could make one from a kit ? The best would be a 50's tweed (wide pannel twin eg) 30W 2X12 w/ bass, mid, trebble, on/off vol and a pine cab deep enough for some Celestion Alico Blue speaks. Am I dreaming ? How hard would this be for a first timer ?
Try the ax84 webpage... They have some really cool amps listed... I dont think they have kits, but they have very detailed Bills Of Material that list everything you will need.. Plus they have layouts, and schematics, and several mods listed for each model.... I dont think it would be really dreaming too much, but I'd suggest starting with the smaller ones first... It isnt that you couldnt do the harder ones, it is the fact that HOW you do the harder ones effects the tone... The Hi-Gains are reportedly sensitive to improperly run wires.... I guess they develop am EM field or RF interference... The P1 or one of the modded versions sounds like it could be the ticket... Of course, Weber has kits already packaged... That is a viable option, but I am looking more for the entire experience rather than just saying I soldered some connections.....
There is a whole world of ampbuilding out there, and you can take it as seriously or as light-hearted as you would like... just remember the electro-hazzards involved.....
