I`ve got a TS-5(modded by Spina) and TS-7 Tubescreamer and IMO they`re great sounding pedals. I just got a chance to play through a Keeley Plus modded TS-9 RI and it had a serious mid hump(I guess that`s what they call it). I`ve heard about Tubescreamers having a mid hump like that but it`s not so evident in my TS-5 and TS-7. Are the TS-9s primarily know for this mid hump or could it be because of the Keeley mod?

A stock Tube Screamer has that mid hump and it also removes alot of low end when engaged...I actually add more lows and taper that hump back a bit so the pedal has a smoother eq overall...Not sure what Keeley does with his mods, but it is something that could be taken care of during the mod changes...I've grown to really dislike a stock TS because of these two characteristics, but alot of people still love the TS as is..

I knew I could count on John to chime in. That TS-5 you modded for me is a great sounding pedal now!

I asked John to mod two of my old TS-9's for a clearer tone with less compression and a more open voice. Total success! I like them better than my TS-808!

Mr. Spina is currently...well actually he's finished and it's on it's way to me...he modded my TS9 reissue, and I absolutely can't wait to throw it back into my rig! and with Lew's review of the SD Pickup Booster, it sounds like one of those may be in my future as well...we'll see

I have both The TS9 RI is a very good pedal. I for one am not a knob twister. I work with a pedal for some time until I get the setting I like best from what it has to offer. The TS9 RI by comparison to the modded one that John has done for me is much thinner sounding. Johns has more bottom and a lot more gain. If I set up both pedals side by side to get them to sound similar (which is hard to do) I had to roll the drive way down on the modded TS9 and had to bring the tone way up. It just has a larger amount of versatility than the TS9RI does.

I'm excited about it..he's mailing it out/has mailed it out today..and should get to me around thursday or friday...I'd be psyched if it got to me thursday in time for my gig

The pedal was mailed out this morning and I'd think you'd have it no later than Thursday actually...

To Dave,Lew etc..I appreciate the nice compliments regarding the pedals I modded for you guys...Lew has 2,as does Curly,Midnite Man,59 Paul...A long list that I can't remember! LOL

John

like I said, when I get this I'll be sending you my sparkle drive...let you put a new switch in it, and who knows...maybe you'll see something that you could do to it to make it better...I'd be willing to be a test subject I got the pedal really cheaply, and it just collects dust compared to my TS9..so maybe you can figure out something, would give you another mod you could do

What I do when a guy sends me a new pedal,is I Listen to it and figure out if it's a pedal I'd like to own myself? If it's close,I then figure out what it needs or lacks...Does the pedal need more or less highs, more lows, less lows, more mids, less mids, more gain,smoother,etc...and then comes the fun part of figuring out how to achieve it(Unless I have a schematic),but this is pretty infrequent! I'll listen to your pedal and see what my ears tell me?

sounds good to me...may need to trade the switch out first though, just to make sure you're able to get it on

That's no problem...I had to change out the switch in Artietoo's SFX-01..Might be the same style of switch?

John

hold on, I'll get a picture of how the switch is put into the pedal (I've done minor work on pedals before)...that way you can have a look see

Not really needed buddy...

I'm bored, it gives me something to do

alright, here are a couple of pics of the switch

and just for fun, some pics of the board anywayz, thanks for indulging my boredom, I return you to your regularly scheduled program

Cool....Lots of tweaky possibilities in that one! I may have to rewire the new switch off and away from the board because the replacements are wider and the contacts are different...The new switch would still bolt up to the outside of the pedal, but the contacts would be wired to the board instead of actually soldering the switch contacts to the pcb...In the long run I think you'd be better with the switch off the board so you don't risk cracking it if the switch were to change position etc..I'll probably have to put something between the new switch and the board for extra protection in that area...The switch you have on your pedal now kinda suck because the 4 tangs have a tendency of pulling away from the plastic(black part)of the switch..I have 1 or 2 of those exact switches, but I don't like them that much..

John

John

sweetness, I'll send it as soon as I get the TS9 in, thanks again chief!
