I tooke the cover off my EMG H4- which is a passive pickup they make and it sounds like sh1t just like the rest of their pickups.

anyway heres the picsHmm... i found it rather amusing that they used bobbins with quot;pole holesquot;, though it's a rails pickup

PUT THAT THING AWAY MAN.

I would hate to see what the active pickups look like...

bad. no disrespect to emg or emg users. but cutting corners is a no no.

1. That looks like trash.

that sure aint pretty

i just noticed, one end of one of the poles doesnt even go into the last hole on one side

That isn't a pickup.. it's a block of wax.

I thought about getting some HZ's for my Squier.. but knowing that underneath that cover is a piece of wax makes me cautious...

It's all glue. they didn't use any wax at all! this glue is all over the coils too becuase they were not taped.

its epoxy.

i would really like to see how the 81's and 85's are built now. i was thinking of getting a set, but now i'm having serious second thought.

These pickups (HZ series) are built in America too.

I might expect this crappy quality if it was made in China or something but not for a USA built pickup.

I took the quot;coversquot; off my EMGs and installed new gold covers

It’s about the tone, not what they look like under epoxy amp; covers - who cares. Their HZ line is their budget offering anyway, even if they are made in Santa Rosa, CA. Their successful line is of course the active line, and again who really cares what's under the permanently fixed cover? Either you like the tone or you don't.

That's one half-assed pickup, damn.

Agreed 100%, you guys are babies for getting all bent out of shape over a pickup that looks like that when the pickup is not supposed to be removed. I am sure past all the aethetics of that pickup, it is just as structurally sound as a Duncan.
