Hello all!
New to the forum, but I have learned a lot allready.
I have a PRS copy that I put a Pearly Gates Neck and Bridge into.
The bridge pickup sounds very harsh and tinny compared to the neck.
Now, the reason that I made the change from a '57 classic plus in the the bridge to the PG bridge was because of this tinny tone.
Facts:
I know it is not the pickup as it sounds great in another one of my guitars.
Two pickups have produced the same tinny sound in the bridge (PG and 57 classic plus)
Mahogany body, rosewood fretboard, and I added a puch pull mod to allow for the inner and outer coils to be utilized (like a PRS MCarty model), three way selector swicth is also installed.

Specific Questions:
Does adjusting the screws on the humbucker alter the tone in anyway?
Is there some other structural factor that could be causing this?

Anyways, if anyone has any ideas of things I should look at, I would be deeply grateful. As it is, I only use the neck pickup in the guitar, which is a shame!

Thanks in advance,
Monik

The PG is very sensitive to height and screw adjustments. Play with the settings a bit and find the sweet spot.

I have to radius the adjustment screws to have an equal distance to the strings. Then you have to fine tune according to equal string volume, you see that you have to turn the plain g string down and up the wound d string to get it. After that is done you have adjust both pup to get a middle sound with none of the pups are dominat. This process takes some days to get it straight.
BTW what do you prefer the inner or the outer SC sound?

What Benjy said...

The PG is very sensitive to it's relative position to the strings....

Try adjusting your pole-pieces so that they match the fretboard radius... arrange them so that the slots are in a zigzag pattern (puttin more metal underneath each string)....

I have mine pretty close to the strings but the low-E side is a tad closer than the treble side....

Just thinker a little bit more with it until you find the sweet spot (once again as benjy said... )

I really dig the outer coil sound...very smooth with distortion. Not the crunch and bite of heavier rock and roll, but great for southern rock type stuff, ABB, Synard, etc.

Thanks for the help guys. I will tinker for a few more days until I get the right sound.
