I've done some thinking as to what kind of a guitar I needed to fill lead duties in my band and decided that I'm going to give humbuckers a try again (I figured most of my favorite artists got sweet leads from humbuckers, so that just might be the way to go)

I was thinking of getting a Yamaha AES620, but when I saw quot;natoquot;, I just couldn't get it out of my mind. If I'm going to spend a decent amount of cash, I need quot;realquot; mahogany.

Enter the Hamer. I love my Gibson doublecut and thought Hamers always looked nice. I haven't played one that was done poor, so I figured it'd be a good guitar to buy sight unseen. That's exactly what I'm doing

Here will be my new Special FM, I just look at the grain and know when it arrives that it'll kick! When I save up enough cash, some Lollar Imperials will go in there (I'm trying to get a great vintage les paul tone, I've already got the vintage telecaster, vintage gretsch and vintage p90 tones nailed to where I'm happy).

My Gibson's playability is just phenomenal and while singlecuts looked like great guitars for leads, I know the doublecut will make those upper frets much easier to get to. I haven't had a guitar with a standard Les Paul wood combo in a while (I play mostly all mahogany guitars, so it will be nice to have some change).

I'm not even a big fan of sunbursts, but this one is drawing me in
Can I get a quot;hell yeahquot; from the Hamer guys on the forum?

HELL YEAH! that looks sweet as. Wouldn't mind one of those myself.

HELL YEAH! sweet axeage dude. gotta love those hamers.

Congrats! pretty axe!..it won't nail that Les Paul sound...but I'm willing to bet with some pup experimentation, you'll get realllll close...My Standard gets pretty dang close as it is...with some pups with more mids (low mids especially), I think most would be hard pressed to tell the difference...

I know you'll be happy with it...they are phenomenal guitars...I got to play a few more the other day, and every single one was as flawless as anyone could ask for, had great sustain, and shake your gut resonance. Mine still floors me at times when I hit a chord and I can feel the energy/vibration from neck to guitar body and into my own.

it's a player!

wow - hot lookin axe .. i bet it'll scream under your fingers, bro

enjoy and play in good health

Very good choice. I love my Special FM. You really can't go wrong with a Hamer.

That's what I like to hear

If this thing sounds as good as the grain of the wood looks, I think I'll have one heck of a guitar. Why these things aren't fetching more money than Gibsons is beyond me, but I'm not complaining

I'm excited to be joining the Hamer family and I'm sure this guitar will KILL with the modified Fargen Epic 30 DC I should be getting back in less than two weeks. I'm hoping for neverending sustain with this one

My fingers aren't anything special, but I'm thinking this will be the final link to my dream lead guitar tone, I can't wait to put this thing through its paces Thanks for the kind words guys, I'd expect nothing less from some of you crazed Hamer enthusiasts... it rubbed off on me

ah yes man...that's gonna rock...you're rig is definitely on my top 5 list of favorites on the forum and it just keeps getting better bro!!!

For what it's worth, I had the BBQ/Genuine Texas set in my Special FM for a while. They're great pickups, just not my style. I replaced a Pearly Gates set with the Rios but there wasn't that much of a difference. The BBQ had a little more oomph in the bottom end, and great harmonics. I would kind of consider it a cross between a JB and a PG. If you're looking for a down and dirty Texas blues/rock machine, that's what you're going to get. I tossed an APH-1 in the bridge of my Special FM and have a Seth neck on the way for it. But, that's more my style lately. I'm not familiar with the Lollars, though.

Where does Hamer find such perfect flame maple?

That looks incredable. I'm sure you'll enjoy it!

Great axe bro!

I have an old '81 Special that I adore. Mine is closer to an SG than a LP, but with a C5/APH set, its a great axe for lead and rythm.

It didn't make sense until I looked up nato and found that it is indeed a kind of mahogany, but it's not the same quality as other types such as honduras (which the Hamer Special has). So, technically, they're not lying, but it's misleading the buyer into thinking that they're getting more. Harmony-Central had an article on it and it blatantly said it was nato, so it definitely all adds up.

I'm pretty sure when I get it, I'll be ordering some Lollars for it almost immediately and I'll be taking the Rios out and putting them in my Epiphone instead. They seem like some good pickups, but I'm pretty much set on the Imperials because I want something very close to the Tom Holmes PAF pickups.

Very, very nice. That will be one rockin axe.

Yup, I often wonder myself......not only do they find GORGEOUS pieces of wood...they also do the best bookmatching I've seen...one gaze through the quot;Hamer Standard for tradequot; thread that went on for awhile is proof positive...

I see alot of other companies that have highly figured tops..whether flame or quilt and while tastes differ...the vast majority of them are very gaudy looking to me...like women who wear WAYYYYY too much makeup.

WTF am I talking about?

Hamer claims that because they get such high quality flame that they don't have to fake the flame by black-staining like Huber or PRS does. Apparently this lets the flame quot;flickerquot; when you mobve it in the light or something like that.

GS

According to Jol Dantzig (co-founder of Hamer guitars) there are really only two grades of flame or quilted maple - AAAA and AAAAA. The standard flame they use is the AAAA. If you order an ultimate flame or ultimate quilt on any guitar, it would be a AAAAA. Jol said there really is no such thing as a quot;10 topquot; when it comes to flame maple. It's either categorized as 4A or 5A. A lot of Hamer's run of the mill 4A flame tops could be considered 5A depending on who you ask. I think that's why so many of Hamer's stock guitars have such an amazing pattern on the maple top. If you guys haven't seen some of the ultimate quilt and flame maple tops Hamer does, you owe it to yourself to check them out.
