Hi guys, All going according to plan, i should have both of these buckers come the end of the week, so any unbiased opinions on the differences between the two buckers, and what sort of situations they are used in??

Thanks very much!

Kev

I had a set of Breeds in an Ibanez RG470 once. I read that they were spefically designed for one of Steve Via's Jems (POGO) so that it would sound more like a Les Paul with PAF's. It's supposed to work really well with a basswood guitar that has a big locking trem and a really thin neck. It made mine sound really nice; however, when I sold the guitarI kept the pickups and put them in a Les Paul. They were too fat, too muddy, and too dark to work in the LP.

I had an APH-1n in a semi-hollowbody's neck position. It was a fantastically warm and sweet-sounding pickup. It had plenty of sustain and had a nice smooth topend.

Hi there.

Well Kev, although I'm a big fan of duncan buckers, the breeds got me. They're very, very nice indeed and I believe you won't regret your choices.

About the comparison, first of all you'll notice a big output difference. The AP2s are PAF-based, around 7.8k, very very warm pickups. Nice bottom, tight mids and good highs w/o sounding trebly. I like them pretty much. They got a low output when compared to other buckers, but I believe it's part of theirmagic - overwinding them would uneven the tone.

The breeds were made for Vai, who was seeking for a less agressive set of evos. So DiMarzio swapped the magnets (A5 rather than ceramics) and voiced the pups to have a PAFfy character. They're somewhat a crossover between them. But they got a pretty hot output (10k in the neck, you got it...). Some people compare the bridge breed to the JB - I partially agree with that, they sing around the same mid-high frequencies, but each one got its own distinctive sound. The JB is a little more open-sounding IMHO (the breeds are more tight in the highs.)

Well, here's a suggestion... try the breed neck in the bridge postion and an ap2 in the neck. The breed neck has less mids than the bridge model, and a lower output of course, so it's a good match for paf-style neck buckers. I believe you'll like this. Good luck.

Thanks so much for the replies guys, most apreciated! Thats some great info thats realy helped me a lot in my choice.

As well as these pups i forgot to mention, i have a JB on the way too. Any body care for wwhich combinations?

Out of the 3 pickups, i'd like to install one of the new ones into my strat bridge, (maple neck) and obviously replace the 2 into the ibanez.

So whats the combination you gurus would go for here???

Thanks,

Kev :fing25:

The breed is a great thick pup in the bridge (nice amount of mids) and is chunky without being to harsh or powerfull its a moderate-high output pickup with a fair amount of bite and is fairly tight even though there is alot of low end.

The A2pro is a great sweet sounding pup which has less output alot more open sounding and less in your face, rounder and more clear not as much mids, very nice for cleans in the neck. Stays very smooth and round when overdriven

I would put a A2pro in the neck and the breed bridge model in the bridge and that will fatten up the bridge spot and be very clear in the neck for pretty versatile setup.

And the JB? Shall i pop that in the strat or Ibanez? (bridge position) In order to make way for the mexican humbucker in there now.
