hey, just wondering
what are differences in 500k, 250k, pots in terms of tone
looking for one that'd suit a les paul with humbuckers
also, if you wanna coil split the humbuckers, do you get tone pots or vol. pots which are push/push?
The higher the pot value, the brighter the tone . . . to an extent. But the affect, at least to me, is subtle. I prefer the slightly more mellow tone of 250's on all my guitars, but then again, it depends a lot on your setup. I play through a mixing board, through studio monitors, so my setup leans towards being bright.
In an amp, with twin-12's, I might prefer 500's.
As for vol or tone for the PP, its all a matter of your preference. Whatever seems more natural to you. From an electrical point of view, it doesn't matter.
Most folks use 500K pots with humbuckers.
Since a lot of PP pots have dodgy tapers, they're more often used for tone than volume. A quirky taper is more noticeable/irritating in a volume pot than in a tone pot. That said, if the taper works for you, I'd put it in whichever spot makes more sense from a layout standpoint.
