I want to try some more advanced wiring to turn my JV strat into the GT (Guitar Toad) strat. Which of the following choices do you most recommend? If I need to go to a master tone control, I still want to keep the middle pup always hot and change to one master tone that will control only the neck and bridge. I'm guessin' that is easily do-able.

Mostly, I want to trade the middle alone for a fatter Middle bridge in parallel or a neck bridge combination. Is it the middle bridge in parallel that gives a fatter HB-like tone?

What are you recommendations? Will I simply need to trade my stock JV 5-way switch for either a mega or super switch and/or go with a Blender pot?

I'm loving my Strat set-up . . . simple, clean, and versatile. I use a master volume/master tone, replaced the 5-way with a 3-way, and replaced the third knob with a 4PDT switch. (I only need 3 poles.)

Switch up gives me:

1. neck amp; middle
2. neck, middle and bridge
3. middle and bridge

Switch down gives me:

1. neck
2. middle
3. bridge

It seems to be the best of all worlds.
All three pups on at once is my favorite tone. Its a rich, M. Knopfler-ish tone. Each pup quot;buffersquot; any quirk of the others. I love it.

Artie

Artie, you use the the SC sized HB's right. I like the idea of simple and clean. I would just need a 3 way and push/pull. Could I incorporate series/parallel switching with that arrangement for my single coils?

Unfortunately, a push/pull won't do it. At least not for that exact functionality. You need at least a 3PDT. You can get close, just not exactly like mine.

But yes, any other functions can be incorporated with the right additional switches.

I suppose you want a diagram?

I'll likey need one eventually. I'm not sure that I'm ready yet. Unless, as I was hoping that with the right 5-way switch that I could get..

neck
neck middle
neck bridge
middle bridge series
Middle bridge parallel

I guess that will require more than the right 5-way switch.

If I would just do a search I could see what others have done and find a diagram that's already been drawn. But, then you wouldn't have anything to do would you Artie?

I don't want to re-invent anything. I'm sure someone else has done it...if I can only find it.

I think thats do-able. Let me check my quot;archivesquot;.
(And give me . . . give me a minute.)

Artie, you are a true servant of the forum. There just aren't enough Artie's in the world.

If you have something close the that then I'll be in business. It doesn't have to be exactly what I wanted.

Thanks for the kind words.

Now that I look at it, I think thats do-able with a simple Fralin Blender and a push/pull pot. (With a standard 5-way.) If I don't have the diagram in my archive, I'll post it tomorrow. Maybe tonight . . . probably tomorrow.

I've got time to wait...no big hurry. That will be totally cool Artie. Thanks for the help. I've still got my 50's mod that you helped me do. I definitely want to incorporate that into this new switching scheme.

Nothing like bringing an old post back to life!!!

Artie, any chance you could share the diagram for your V - T - 3 way - 4DPT strat wiring?

i do this circuit with a single superwitch. I'm going to be offering prewired switches on ebay soon.

When I can be arsed...
