Hey guys, the dogs got into my room when i was at work, and pretty much knocked over everything, including my guitar stand, with the guitar in it, and she got hurted Big splinter crack on the side. Doesnt effect playing to much, but its just...well gives me an excuse into looking for a new Acoustic. She is an Ibanez aw 80 CE NT with fishman 5 band EQ pickups.
So i'm looking to go a few steps up! She ( did ) retail for about 1000 Australian, or about 700 US.
Any suggestions?
What kind of acoustic are you going for, for really warm sounds and rhythm playing or snappy brighter sound. If your going based by brand i should mention Alvarez, Rainsong, and Breedlove make some of the better guitars right now
i friggin absolutely love my taylor 410 dread...simply an amazing guitar, sounds great, plays great, its just great!
Get a taylor.
It's the only acoustic guitar brand that i recommend.
If you hear the sound, you'll know why... =)
I think Taylors are the best sounding and best built acoustic guitar for the money that there is. I'd start looking at Taylors...your money will go further with a Taylor than if you go for a Martin or other brand, IMO. Larivee's are nice too, but I think Taylors sound better. Lew
Martin D-28. Simply the best IMO.
what i would do is go to a guitar shop, play every acoustic they have, and make your decision. i got lucky because my dad has this guitar from the sixties or seventies, but it is the best sounding acoustic EVA! but yeah id still go try some out if i were you.
Larivee hands down.
Talyor, Martin, or Gibson. Just depends on what tone you're after. They're all three different.
Wait a minute. I didn't just recomend a Gibson did I? Get a used one. And play the crap out of it to make sure there's nothing wrong.
I like the bolt on necks of the Taylors, so you can easily re-set the neck if it needs it, but my favorite tone is probably a Hummingbird.
The sleeper guitar of the Martin line is the DR. Dreadnaught Rosewood.
It's basically a cheaper D-28 that has beautiful laminated rosewood back and sides, rather than solid rosewood. Also, it has a rosewood fretboard, not ebony.
I had one before I bought my D-28, and it's honestly just about as good.
Or, a Taylor 410 dreadnaught. Those 2 can be found for around $700 used, and are the best for cheapest from Martin and Taylor.
Wow you all dont really look at many acoustics outside of the several main brands do you?
I like a warmer, rounder, clear/bright sounding acustic. I think i'm going to look at some taylors, ive played a few of them before and liked them alot.
Also, a cut away/pick up would be nice!
Though most people usually remark about their great value with their cheaper models, I recommend an artist series Seagull. They're about $900 to over a grand depending on which model and so forth. I've got an artist series studio rosewood, which I absolutely love. I tried out tons of acoustics, but in the end the Seagull just sounded the best to me and had a great feel. The sides are laminate, but the top and back are both solid(there's also a model which also has solid sides as well), and they just have this great tone and clarity to them.
Try one and see what you think. I know at first it can feel a bit strange to pay over a grand and not get a Martin or Taylor(or Gibson), but after playing the one I bought I felt it was completely justified. It's my acoustic for life.
i've heard nice things about Seagull
if i had that kind of cash it would be a hard decision for me between a Taylor and Gibby Hummingbird...i love the uberclean Taylor sound but there's something about bird's that just gets to me too...it would be tough but i think i would prolly go with a Taylor?!
I like Martins for their tone, and Taylors for their playability. It depends on whether you plan to play acoustically or plugged in.
I've played an Alvarez Yairi that was a very pleasant surprise.
and, yeah, the Seagulls are a good value.
you might get some more suggestions over on the Acoustic Guitar Forum.

This one?
That's the new GAD-40C.....I know the GADs are the new, more affordable models, but I'm not sure where they're made amp; the differences. I'm sure they're worth a shot though.
