I purchased a used SD pickup booster to help my low output Fender Vintage noisless PUPS in my strat. The first thing I noticed was that when on and set to Res at 0, the pedal picked up a lound poping sound as the volume is rolled between 9 amp; 10? when I switch to Resonance 1 ( very nominal difference in sound) it disappears. Is the booster at 0 picking up a probem in my volume pot that I don't hear without it ( I can put it clean through an amp cranked to 10 and nothing), and then why does it not happen at resonance 1 and how much differnce in tone shoud I be hearing between 0 amp; 1?

When you turn the volume control from 10 to 9, you're making a transistion from one type of metal to a carbon element. You probably have a small impurity, or quot;badquot; spot on the volume control thats causing a high-frequency quot;popquot;. The booster will, of course, amplify that pop. When you switch to the #1 position, you roll off some of the highs. Probably, enough so, to eliminate, or diminish, the pop.

What I would do first, is acquire some contact cleaner. Caig Labs Deoxit, is the best. (Available from Radio Shack.) Try squirting some in the volume control, and turning it back and forth a few times.

If that doesn't help, let us know, and we can go from there.

btw - Deoxit, in RS, may have their own brand name on it. Maybe not. Don't ask for assistance. Just look at the small print on the can, and look for Caig Labs.

The same thing happens with two other guitars and all my guitar have been recently setup and cleaned, if I turn up the amp volume I can hear it from 0-10, the on/of switch is also noisey. I'm sending it back to the seller!
