If any of you guys have a EB or Peavey, Kramer etc guitars with just the single volume control tell me this.... how hard, if at all, is it to get used to just having a tone control with two buckers???

I almost never have any working Tone Controlls on my guitars.... I prefer a single volume.... or in the case of a Gibson style guitar a volume pot of each pickup. The only guitars i own with working tone pots is my new tele and my old 1976 Les Paul Deluxe..... The tone pots on my LP are kind of cool as you can get an almost wah wah sound out of them when you roll them on/off quickly.... My tele's tone pot works well to thickin up the sound, for an almost P90 sound...

Tone pots for me mostly just get in the way.... I almost never use them at all.. I prefer changes at the amp.

Just a tone control?

I've got a charvel with a single volume knob. I like it a lot.
The Invader in my strat is also wired so that it doesn't have a tone knob, I like it better that way.

I never use the tone control on my guitars. I've got a Peavey Wolfgang and I don't miss the tone knob on it. In fact, on a couple of my other guitars, I've yanked the tone pot and replaced it with another volume pot so I can have individual volume controls for the pickups.

Some people use the tone knob and swear by the versatility they can coax out of it. I am not one of those some people.

my axe has a single tone control and 2 individual volume control for the buckers. i think its kinda comfy that way too.

I actually end up disconnecting all the tone pots on my guitars because I feel they're a biut more clear and open without it. Probably just the added brightness, though.

i have 8 guitars without tone controls out of my heard...i don't need them and don't miss them.

Bah, I'm against tone controls. I'm planning on taking out the tone control in my V, and replacing it with some kind of boost switch of some sort.

I prefer only having one tone control.. less to faff about with.

They're invaluable if you've already started a song and your highs are going to shatter glass.. you can also get some pretty nice tones with them rolled right down. Neck pup clean and the tone pot rolled down can make for nice plummy sounding runs..

I don't like having two tone controls personally, I'm a vol/tone/pup switch guy.. anything more and I feel like I'm having to fly a plane

I guess I am so used to my Tele and HAVING to use the tone especially when using the bridge pup. I am bidding on this and the one volume sort of scared me, but I think I can get used to that. The only other thing is the Floyd!!

i cant imagine not using my tone control- i use it all the time- there is no other cheaper and easier way to change the sound of your guitar. my music man has 1 tone for both HBs, which I like (so does my brian moore)...i like this setup better than 2 tone knobs...and much much better than none at all..

I can see how you might be a bit leery of not having a tone control because you're used to playing a tele. I freak out at the thought of no tone control on a strat or tele, but I have no problem with it with two humbuckers. I use the tone control on my strat a lot, but virtually never on my humbucker guitars.

Not hard at all. I usually leave the tone on 10 anyway. I actually like a tone control with 2 buckers now, especially with a 0.047uf cap. Even with the tone on 10, it still affects the tone enough to smooth it out some.

You will have no problem with that guitar having just a volume knob.

I don't miss the Tone Control on my Axis, the pickups are voiced pretty good together so they balance. I do adjust the volume control quite a bit to get different tones. I have a Les Paul, I used to use the tone control on the neck pickup to get Clapton's woman tone, but find the guitar sings more without it, if the amp is adjusted correctly. I never use it on the bridge pickup.

remember, the earlier axis had a volume knob labeled 'tone' which comes from the EVH models.

Yeah, like this:

I'm with Mincer on this one. I ride my tone knobs practically all te time, and with the Gibby's, I leave the switch in the middle and use the volumes and tones to get the sounds I want. I wouldn't dream of playing a guitar without at least one tone control.
