Ok, I have a PRS CE-24, which I'm currently thinking of souping up(new pickups for one). In the process, I was thinking about changing all the hardeware to gold versions. While I don't have a pic of my guitar, this one from : localhost/is similar. It's the same colour, just mine is a CE, so take away the birds, and the pickups are open. Anyways, what does everyone think of the gold idea? I've got a guy who's ready to order the parts for me, just waiting to go into the store and put a downpayment on them, but now at the last minute it's like I'm starting to get second thoughts.
The gold idea goes way back, to a picture of a PRS which orginally made me want to get one. It was green and had gold hardware, and I loved the look of it. As well, the current hardware, due ot the fact I've had the guitar for a long time, and the fact I got the guitar when I was pretty young, is extremely tarnished, and a a fair amount of the bridge has had the nickle/silver completely rub off to show the brass underneath. The guitar plays like a dream though, and sounds like one two, and despite being a CE model, actually has one of the best tops I've ever seen on a PRS(anyone else notice that? The CE models often have some of their best tops). Anyways, what's everyones take on it? I just want to know, because I'm probably going to end up getting some new pups for it soon, and would like to know if I should be ordering with gold poles and such when I do.
Gold finish wears of very easily, so I never consider it when I'm looking for a guitar. It looks very good when it's new, though. If you think you can take good care of it, go for it. I think gold would look great on that color.
I personally dislike gold hardware, I'd go silver.

Well, the one advantage is that the bridge is made of brass, so if the gold wears off it won't be as noticable. Where the silver is wearing off right now it actually looks almost gold hardwarish. But yes, in the picture I have at home, the gold looks absolutely amazing with dark green. I usually don't really like gold, but for some reason with the green I think it looks great. Well, I have until Thursday night really to decide really(where I'm ordering it from, well, they're basically ordering their shipment of PRS guitars and parts and so forth a little after that, so it's either order Thursday/Friday or wait a long time until they need to order something again). So, just want to get some feedback from people.
I'm taking it that in 30 years or so, it's not going to be the CE models that have appreciated in value, compared to the standards and customs and McCartys.
Amazingly enough, I never heard a problem switching the hardware, until my girlfriend said quot;ya, but it won't be the same anymore afterwardsquot;, and that got me second guessing the idea. I don't know, I guess I have a strong emotional bond with guitar, since it's the only guitar I've used for the past 5 years, otherwise I'd just buy a new one instead of considering doing a bunch of work to this one.
