anybody wanna throw ideas for any? i have no real need for one, but im shoppin for a friend/bandmate.
If it's for a bandmate, I would suggest getting the same amp you have already.
It will go a long way towards give you a unified sound.

true that, i was gonna do that or at least one that sounds really similar, but he plays alot of other stuff i was thinking maybe complementary tones would work. he uses a peave transtube 212 efx right now, but it sounds like crap.

the 5150 name went bye-bye when EVH's endorsement deal expired.
aha i thought so. i wonder wat hell hook up with next.. itd be cool if he got with marshall and they made him a sig marshall head. that would actually be really awesome.
You MAY want to try a Line 6 Vetta combo. Not only will you get great distortions, but lots of'em. Definitely try one out first though. That amp seems to be love or hate. I love them, lotsa others hate'm.
Here's a link to one on ebay and to Andy Z's Line 6 site that has forums, amps for sale etc... good site. I went there when I was thinking of buying a Vetta.

Get a 5150, its a much better sounding high gain amp than most at 2 or 3 times its value, amazing amp, i wouldent exchange mine for anything, i could have honestly afforded a Cornford, Diezel, Framus or pretty much anything at the time but the 5150 was a lot cheaper and sounded just as good.
