ok so i got a 1995 fender mexican strat...
got it for a really good price
was wondering why it said squire series but everything else matches the mexican standard line, it has the MN5 serial number, it says made in mexico on the front etc...

thanks for any help!!

From what I know, Squier (lt;--that's how yo uactually spell it) was a series in the Fender line before it became it's own company. I have a book with a guitar on it that has quot;Squier seriesquot; on the headstock and I thought the same as you. But ya, fro mwhat I know, Squier was a series before independant and I'm 90% sure they were higher quality when they were a series rather than a company.

I own the same guitar..... Mine is a 1994 Mexican Made Squier, Black with an all Maple Neck.... I bought it new in 1995 in Toronto at the 12th Fret who was selling a bunch of them cheap. The Store told me that Fender was with-out an overseas contract to make Squiers, so they offered Squiers for 2 years or so from the Mexican plant until they could set up something over in Asia. I heard that these Mex Squiers only came in Black from the Mexican Plant, but you could choose all Maple necks or ones with a Rosewood board. They were the same guitar pretty much as a Mexican Standard but had cheaper tuners and bridge... I have since found used Mexican Standard tuners and a used Mex Standard's bridge and replaced the Squires cheaper parts....

At the time i didn't have much money but wanted a strat so i ended up with that Squier.. That Squier was only $300 Canadian new so it fit the bill. It's not as nice as a really good strat but for the bucks they rock... I stuck a Hot Rails in the bridge a few years ago. It plays and sounds the same as my 1999 Mexican Standard... I kind of like the ceramic pickups in those cheaper strats.

Oddly i used that Squier for a lot when learning repair work... I had routed it out for humbuckers, used the neck to make a template for my home made guitars.... It's been taken apart more times then i can count.
