Hi guys, I've got a Framus Panthera Studio with a Custom in the Bridge position and I don't actually like it. It's too shrill in the highs and the bass response is bad compared to my Camarillo Custom with the Demon in Bridge.
Now the question is, what shall I put in the Bridge Position?
A Custom 5 or a Demon?
For those who don't know the Framus, it's a Les Paul like guitar, mahogany body, maple top, ovangkol Neck and an ebony fretboard.
Please excuse my english, but I'm from germany...

You should try the new Mighty Mite Motherbucker pickups. The rule on Duncans hard. Ebay for like $30 US.

Oh and dip them in peanut butter first for that smooth creamy tone. If you like a crunchy tone, use crunchy peanut butter.

Very funny, it's a serious question, dude...

Dear BaHo.

Thanks for the question and welcome to the board.

Perhaps one of the reasons you don't like the Custom is because it uses a ceramic magnet. You sound like an Alnico-guy, which is probabaly why you like your Demon.

My suggestion, is to stick with the Demon, since you know you like it. However, if you want some more output, go with the Custom 5. Either way, I think you'll be happy with the tone.

I hope that helps.

Thanks Evan, i think it helps me.
I just didn't know if the demon 'fits' a Les Paul guitar.
I think I'll try the Demon in my Panthera and will post the result!

No problem, BaHo. If you have a traditional Gibson-spaced bridge, order the SH-12 Screamin' Demon Humbucker. If you have a wider bridge (like a Floyd), order the TB-12 Screamin' Demon Trembucker. Same pickup. Different string spacings.

Enjoy.

cool! one more dude from Germany. welcome BaHo!

Welcome to the forum, bro. You don't need me backing up one of the leading experts in the field, but I'm going to do it anyway. I think Evan nailed it on the magnet. It's one of the big factors in determining whether you'll like the pup or not. Go with his suggestion. If that doesn't work, I'm sure we can figure out something that will.

One easy thing you could try is to swap the magnet in the custom from an alnico5 magnet and you will have a Custom5 and then if you don't like it change the whole pickup .

Thanks for the advice, but I'm not that familiar with swapping magnets on a Pup. I'll order the Demon and then we'll see.

By the way, how can I see if I need an F-Spaced Pup? My guitar has a Tune-O-Matic Bridge with a stoptail piece, and I recently read that on new Gibsons you would also need F-Spaced Pups. Is that true and how can I see if my guitar needs an F-Spaced or an normal one?

Click here and it'll tell you everything you need to know about humbuckers vs. Trembuckers and which one you need for your guitar.

Cheers,

Thanks again, you guys are great! I'm going for the SH-12!
