Hi guys.. I have a DD trem bucker / f spaced .. I stuck in my RG 550 with maple neck and trem.. it sounds good, but I want to try my newly aquired Dimarzio Tone Zone which I think just sounds better in these guitars.. since Dimarzio and Ibanez seemed to be joined at the hip.. hehe.. Anyway, I had thought that I might like to try the Distortion in the neck since I thought it was too bright in the bridge anyway, but the output was too high and it would drown out the Tone Zone I was afraid, so I'm thinking if I could write it to be single coil all the time in the neck, it would be almost perfect. I don't want to ahve to use a coil splitter device thought like a volume knob or such.. Can someone hlep me write this? OR tell me how?
Thanks so much
Tim
Hmmm . . . I just answered this exact question the other day. It must be getting popular.
For the adjustable coil, wire red to hot, green to ground.
For the stud coil, wire black to hot, white to ground.

He's right.
Take out half the polepieces and wire it in parallel.
you'll get the tone of a split distortion and hum-cenceling.
^Does that work? I've never heard of anyone doing it.

i would also like to know
It's basically DiMarzio's dummmy coild petent's pricipal.
The coil without the poles won't pick up the sting vibration, but it'll sent a reverse-phase noise signal.
Artie,
Thank you so much.. I got a great deal on a Tone Zone and thought since the Distortion Duncan was a tad bright, but also too powerful, but sounds wonderfully bright and jangly in the single coil mode in my experience, it would be great for the neck.. So it's off to the races sir!@
Thanks so much man!
Tim
Artie,
Will that work for the Number 4 osition ? I mean will it work with the mid single coil already on the guitar then ?
Thanks so much

Artie,
I'm totally confused.. Your dealing with a guy that's only wired a couple pickups in his day and that was because he had a wiring diagram.. Can you tell me which witre is the HOT for instance when you say wire red to hot? Green to ground? What's the ground? I take it ground is the tone pot?
What's the difference between stud coil and adjustable coil? See, here's what I want.. I have a DD that I want to put in the neck since I bought a used Dimarzio Tone Zone.. for the bridge since the DD was too bright, or a tad too bright.. So now, I know the DD has more output, but I want it's tone in the neck, so I want to go single coil only all the time.. and not have to buy a tapable pot or whatever the volume or tone knob is called that you can pull out.. So can you tell me where the wires go in that respect so that all the time the neck pickup which will be the Duncan Distortion will be single coil?
Thanks so much

No problem . . . we can talk you down. Put the control stick between your knees . . . wait a sec . . . wrong forum . . . By quot;hotquot; wire, I mean the one you connect to the 5-way on a 1 vol/1 tone guitar, or the volume pot on a 2 vol/ 2 tone guitar. (Which is yours?)
Ground is ultimately the quot;sleevequot; portion of the output jack, but usually it will be connected to the back of one of the pots. You'll be able to see it easily when you look inside the guitar. At least one of the pots will have wires soldered to it. Thats ground.

The adjustable coil is the one that has the quot;screwquot; heads on it. You can adjust the pole piece heighth by turning them. The stud coil is the one that doesn't adjust. Its the one with the slightly stronger output.Originally Posted by IndyManSo can you tell me where the wires go in that respect so that all the time the neck pickup which will be the Duncan Distortion will be single coil?

Ok, but you'll have to make the desicion which coil you want to use. If it was me, I'd probably use the adjustable coil, but its a matter of taste. In the neck, they'll both be close to the same sound.
So . . .
If you want to use the coil that has the screw pole pieces, connect the bare wire and the green wire to the back of the pot, and connect the red wire to the 5-way switch.
If you want to use the flat, non-adjustable pole piece coil, connect the bare wire and the white wire to the back of the pot, and the black wire to the 5-way switch.
Don't worry . . . we'll get this.
