I just finshed installing an SH-8 invader in my Dean Zone (Strat Style, Two humbuckers) guitar. I believe the body is alder and the neck is maple.

On with the review:

I've found that the invader produces a very thick, distorted tone. How so you may ask? It's very chunky and really beefs up the overall signal--it's a like a BBE sonic maximizer in pickup form. This pickup has a very open, let loose tone; because of this, I've found that it's better to use this pickup with as less gain as possible because the more gain used would cause this pickup to get crazy, feedback, and get out of control--it's gonna sound like crap, basically. Also, when playing faster and playing more notes while using a lot of distortion, then invader tends to lose its clarity and turn to mush.

The lead tones are very thick and able to cut through with ease. I'm not quite sure how it would sound split with another pickup because the guitar in which I have it is a one pickup guitar. But I'd say this pickup would sound really good with something like an SH-2 in the neck.

The cleans were really nice, but I found it somewhat hard to get fully clean; you have to roll the volume down a few notches. The cleans were really quot;warmquot; and had a lot of bass and lower midrange. It diddn't have a lot of top end quot;sparklequot; like other pickups do. I wouldn't say this is the best pickup for only clean tones, but it seems to hack it quite well and it'll do for clean use every now and then.

Compared to other pickups:

JB: It's a lot more open than the JB and has a lot more bass.

Distortion: It's got around the same amount of distortion as the distortion--maybe the distortion has more--and it's got that quot;in-your-facequot; type tone like the distortion, too, but it also has more bass.

Dimebucker: The Dime is a lot more quot;tightquot; and quot;focusedquot; than the invader. The Dime seems to have the same type of low end as the invader, but it, however, doesn't loose its clarity when under high gain.

Conclusion:
The invader is a great pickup for anyone looking to beef up their overall tone, play some leads, and throw in some cleans here and there. I think it's best used with a lower amount of gain to get at its full potential. I think it would be a great punk, rhythm heavy metal, hard rock pickup.

I hope this helps all the people that have been asking about the invader latley and I hope it helps anyone else who may have had any questions about this pickup in general.
