I have a pair of seth lovers in my Michael Kelly Patriot LP and really love them. But, a friend of mine is selling an almost brand new set of ant's for 150. Wanna hear opinions on if I should buy them. Are they really as good as people say or should I just save my cash and stick with the seths?
do you have another guitar to put them in?
$150 for the set is pretty good so i dont know if id pass that up
The Antiquities are wound just a touch hotter than the Seths (8.5 and 7.8 vs. 8.1 and 7.2 for the Seths) and I understand the magnets are quot;agedquot;.
Nope, My other guitar is a Clapton Strat.
would the antiquities be better for the tone Clapton got on quot; I'm So Gladquot;?
the antiquitys are a little sweeter and have a more complex midrange with maybe a touch less brightness and output. they are my favorite vintage buckers.
the only downside is that my MK LP has the ability to split both coils and I know the Ant's aren't 4 conducter. Can I just wire them in as is and not use the split?

Yep...that's exactly what I hear too. I'm So Glad huh? Well those were probably alnico 2 pafs on the Fresh Cream album...that's what I hear anyway. Remember though: those pickups in Clapton's Les Paul were less than 10 years old in 1966 or 67 when that album was recorded. In theory at least, the Seth Lovers would probably be closer in tone. Either would do the job beautifully although the Antiquitys always sound to me like they have more personality and are a little more complex...as Jeremy already stated. Lew

Yes. Just solder the center (inner) wire to where ever the main hot lead from the pickup you're replacing went and solder the braid shielding to ground. The end.
If you're really feeling adventurous and want to keep the coil-split option (though a split Antiquity would probably sound kinda weak), you can get some 4-conductor wire and rewire the Antiquity to 4-conductor.
I havent tried the Seth's so I cant realy comment on that, but I got a set of Antiguity's in my LP and I love it. It is just so nicely rounded and sweet. And for that price, why not? If it turns out you dont like it, you can probably sell it for the same or maybe even an higher price.

1 1 1 1 1!!!!! Grab those bad boys. You'll love them. Seths and Ants are my personal favorite. Ants are somewhat warmer and you already know how Seths sound. Go for it.Jeff

He was using his 3-PAF LP Custom or a Borrowed '60 'Burst on that album. The live version was probably done with a 335 or Firebird, so they weren't PAFs. Jeff

I recently bought a set of Ants, and I've had Seths for a couple of years. I love them both! The Ants are a little hotter and (as the others say) a little warmer, more going on in the midrange.
That sounds like a great price. I say go for it, and sell them on if you don't like them. But I reckon you will love them!
