Alright, I've got a Gibson 57 Classic bucker on my hands, and when I went to install it, the screw holes were drilled out too big. I had an extra baseplate that would fit it in my parts drawer, and went to town. Somewhere along the way, one of the leads from the slug bobbin came unsoldered. When I tried to strip it to get more lead to work with...it came right out of the pickup. So to cut a long story short, there's one lead that goes into a hole on the bottom of the pickup, and there's an end of the coil wiring buried somewhere inside of it. I have a general idea of where it is...but yeah.

If it's not that hard to fix the pickup, I'm all up for doing it myself. I'm quite handy with a soldering iron and know how to work a multimeter. I just need instructions on how to reattach the lead to the coil, and then how to hook it all back up to the single conductor wiring.

Also, I don't know if it matters, but when I tried to get a reading from the slug (broken) coil, I couldn't get anything using the end of the coil wire and it's other lead, but the other coil reads fine at 4.32 or so.

But, if this undertaking is beyond my abilities, would one of you guys be so kind as to try and fix it to me? I'd of course re-imburse you for shipping and your work, if it came to that.

I'm on the other side of the country from you, but if no one closer wants to handle it, I'd be happy to take a shot at it. Can't make any promises, but if you cover shipping, I'll give it my best shot.

What about grinding the bottoms of the pickup tangs clean and soldering a nut to that surface...You then could just screw right into the nut....Or....JB weld a small peice of metal on the bottom of the enlarged holes, redrill the holes and retap the threads...Very nice of Artie to offer your help...Same goes for me also...

I'll give two or three days longer, and if nobody can offer any advice or wants to tackle it, it'll be headed your way .

Artie was nice enough to offer you first crack at fixing it for you..If Artie has other stuff going on and wants me to fix it instead,it'll be up to my buddy Artie? Either way,one of us will get you fixed up...I shouldn't even be stepping on Artie's toes, since it was his offer from the start....

Let me just state that I'm offering some ideas on how to fix your pickup at this point....

John

John

You aren't stepping on my toes. If you've actually done this before, then by all means, give it a shot. I've rebuilt pups before, but never did an actuall repair. Shouldn't be too hard though.

I did, however, have to send a Seth Lover back to youngpup without changing it over to 4-wire. I wasn't comfortable removing the cover on such a pristine pup. (His was perfect.)

No offense at all Artie, but if John know's solidly how to fix this, it'll go to him. I just need this pickup back up and working again, and ASAP.

None at all. The name quot;Spinaquot; will soon replace quot;Keeleyquot; as the synonym for quot;mod kingquot;.

Ah I can't believe I missed your post on the tabs, John. Unfortunately, it's too late for that, and I need the actual pickup itself repaired.

Bump.
