Anyone know what type of Ibanez Dave Navarro was using when he was in Jane's Addiction? I'm particularly interested in the quot;Nothing's Shockingquot; Ibanez and the blue one on the following page.

AFAIK, he was playing stock RG's early on...probably up until the quot;Ritualquot; days when he had one painted with the album artwork, and that's some pretty gnarly artwork too! Maybe he had different pickups in there, I dunno. But the yellow one there (if I'm remembering the Ivebeenhad models right) is an RG550.

The Nothing's Shocking one is probably a custom-painted RG570, and the blue one looks to be an RG770.

How do those Ibanez models compare to say a Fender Fat Strat? I'm looking to add a super strat to my collection and both of these seem vey nice.

And the gold one is a Starfield Cabriolet, either custom or heavily customized. Starfield was a subbrand of Ibanez, most of them were made in the USA.

Ibanez RGs are killer guitars. Do yourself a favor, and take your time cruising used ones. You can get Japanese RG470s for under $200.

How do you like the RG550? I think that was Navarro's yellow guitar in Jane's.

All Japanese RGs rule. The Korean ones are nice, too. I had an RG350DX that had an amazing neck... wish I'd have kept it

The 550s are kind of expensive right now, though. The yellow and pink ones are rather hot, so it's jacking the price up.

Indeed, the early '87's are highly sought-after. Mine's a '91 RG550, painted in Coral Myst Metallic (it's f###ing awesome!) that I bought for 250 euros.

I've owned an RG470 too, but didn't like it at all. I've only owned that guitar for a month. It sounded dull, dark and muddy. I never even considered changing the pickups to try to improve it. I just didn't like the guitar. The RG550 I own now though is much more to my liking. It doesn't have the All Access Neck Joint yet, and still has the V1 and V2 humbuckers (I like to keep it stock). Plays like a dream and sounds great. The only thing I changed is the middle pickup position. I installed a StewMac Superswitch, with all the standard switching positions, but instead of the middle pickup stand-alone in the center position, I wired the two humbuckers parallel, for a slightly Les Paul-like inbetween-sound. I've kept the original switch though. It's a great guitar.
