I think I've solved my amp dilema. A U.K. internet shop is selling ex-demo Hot Rod Devilles (4x10) for £500. You still get 1 year's warrenty so I guess the amps are still up to the job. I've never really considered these before so I know very little about them, but I'm getting desperate now. Anything you can let me know about these amps would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Benja

Good amp, the dirty channel isn't too useful. Good solid clean channel.

These amps are LOUD. Like Really.

Was hoping someone would say something like that! Am a bit of a pedal freak. I'm looking for something with a really solid clean sound that I can build everything else on. I' have heard that these amps break up quite early but I guess I could just get tubes with harder ratings. How early do they break up?

Thanks,
Benja

Pretty flexible, they have gain, volume and master, so using those you can realy tweak when it breaks up. I remember one review I heard somewhere saying this guy bought one of these over the twin reissues because he thought it sounded it just as clean but with a hell of alot cheaper price.

As far as breaking up early, I think they break up a tad early relative to the volume they have at hand, but are already quite loud before they break.

Have just been scrolling through the Harmony Central reviews. Very mixed opinions, but mostly positive. The majority of people suggest that this amp is much more inclined towards fender guitars, or any single coil equipped guitar. I play a Epiphone Les Paul, what sort of sounds should I expect from the Hot Rod? Strokes for dirt? What about clean?

Generally speaking, I much prefer 10's to 12's for clean, so that works for me. How do these amps compare to the Pro Tube series in terms of quality? Stuff like the Concert Reverb and Twin?

Thanks again,
Benja

It is a great Clean amp for pushing pedals thru! I'm also a huge fan of Pink Floyd and i knew David uses pedals for dirt... I want one of these amps just for that set up.... I have the Peavey Classic 50 but the clean channel on the fender Deville sounds better to my ears.... But the Classic 50's dirt sounds better then the Deville.....

Oddly when i saw The Doors last Monday in Toronto Robbie had 2 4x10 Devilles... I believe he was using pedals for fuzz as well....

I used the 410 during rehearsal with my band for a couple hours not to long ago. I was extremely impressed with it, but it was very different than I expected. The cleans, while nice, don't have nearly as much headroom as I'd like. The overdrive on the other hand was really really good. It's very warm and punchy, and although it isn't as compressed and gainy as a lot of people like, I though it was really excellent. There seems to be a stereotype that says all Fender overdrive sucks, but this one sure doesn't. If you don't mind the lack of clean headroom, I'd say go for it. One thing though: I have no idea what kind of tubes where in it or what kind of condition they were in, so that may have had something to do with it.
